The number of workers in the U.S. has continued to shrink as businesses struggle to find employees for their openings.
"The hope for many to achieve a soft landing is that you meet in the middle, with demand cooling off and labor supply picking up, and we reach a much healthier equilibrium between the two," Michael Pugliese, an economist at Wells Fargo, told the Wall Street Journal Sunday. "But if labor supply flatlines or keeps falling, you need to bring demand down even more in order to cool off wage growth."
According to Labor Department data, the number of workers in the U.S. has fallen 400,000 since March, a troubling sign after the number of workers approached prepandemic levels earlier this year. The total labor force is now about 600,000 smaller than it was in early 2020, right before widespread COVID-19 restrictions plunged the economy into a recession.

Replaced with people who are not chiselers cheating shareholders and the rest of society by gutting companies, transferring their tech to foreign competitors and then cashing in from the temporary boost in profits before the chickens come to roost: GE and Boeing quickly come to mind.
Prosecute the execs for fraud (and in Boeing's case, manslaughter), force them to disgorge all pay, bonuses and stock option gains pour encourager les autres. Remove the statute of limitations on bank fraud and go after the banksters as well.
That is the big question.
Like my old man said, you can retire anytime. It’s just a matter of how much stuff you want.
Unfortunately I didn’t make the best life decisions and I’m afraid I’m always gonna have to work to pull in some income. At least for the next three years
I hate quitting but I try as best as I can and I’m just not into it anymore
I just need to drive a delivery van around town for Amazon or DHS or FedEx or somebody.
I’m tired of the corporate establishing relationships between stakeholders nonsense anymore
