Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey announced this week that officers in county schools will carry long guns and will be prepared to “meet violence with violence” and win the day.
Florida Today quoted Ivey saying, “You are not coming into my schools and killing our children.”
He noted, “I firmly believe that if you do not meet violence with violence, you will be violently killed.”
Ivey posted a video to Facebook in which he announced that officers will have long guns on their persons, in order to save time that would have been wasted running to a squad car to retrieve the firearm during an attack.

Imagine what a potential shooter would do as he walked up to a school and saw that the teachers parking lot is full of old trucks adorned by faded to new NRA, Molon Labe, etc bumper stickers and all the gun racks are presently empty?
I’m thinking they’d say a big “Nope!” before going somewhere else.
FACT: Guns prevent an estimated 2.5 million crimes a year or 6,849 every day. 98+% of the time the gun is not fired and no blood (including the criminal’s) is shed.

In the near future, armed drones will pop out of the school ceilings and dispatch the bad perps attacking the school. The drones won’t run away in fear like those cops did recently.
Brevard County? I am surprised it wasn’t Grady Judd, the sheriff of Polk County. Of course, he’s dealing with Disney’s GROOMERS, since his men arrests them in child porn stings.
A damned shame it has to be done at all.
Just one more indication of a downward spiraling society IMO.
Yep. Gun free zones are nothing but potential kill zones.
I carry everywhere now.
I see a sign that says “no guns” I walk right by it.
The recent incident in Illinois is the perfect example of why.
If they’re gonna catch me they better have a metal detector.
Are long guns necessary, given the distances involved and the clumsiness of carrying one all day...
There is an even easier solution to this problem.
Mandate that each school has a rifle range in the basement.
Let the students bring their rifles and ammo to school..
There will be no need for police with long guns in the schools anymore.
Always CCW. Always.
Those kids will study transgenderism in peace and security thank goodness.c
As long as they have the mindset to match their equipment, this will be a good thing.
I think I’d rather have 1/3 of the teachers armed and mentally/physically trained with pepper spray, sidearms and hand-to-hand knowledge than one or two centurions walking around with AR’s.
Obama used to promote that law enforcement with automatic weapons looked “militaristic” to blacks in urban areas and this set back diversity and racial harmony.
Also the guns out of SWAT vehicle turrets when twenty homeboys are shooting hundreds of rounds at them on a city street. So unGandhi like.
Obama didn’t say much about officers ambushed and killed. Or innocent citizens wounded or killed by drivebys and rival thugs shooting near pedestrians or passing a house where a child gets shot through a window at dinner.
They should carry a short barreled rifle and/or shotgun for any problems in school buildings, malls, etc.
Until some ‘woke’ school board has a fit.
Yes. Long guns are consistently more accurate than handguns due to the more stable extended grip surface and longer sight lines. It’s why the soldiers and Marines use long guns when expecting close quarters engagements. The KelTec SUB2000 proposed is a compact foldable pistol caliber sweetie. Perfect for its proposed use.
One can always hit better with a shoulder fired gun than a handgun.
One might reasonably infer that the Sheriff is planning on short barrel AR type weapons...
But not necessarily. A pistol caliber carbine (i.e. 9mm) with an 8 inch barrel would actually be quite handy, but might still be referred to a a “long gun” because it’s shoulder fired.
Or .300 Blackout. Some Israeli teachers are still equipped with M1 carbines.
Honestly one could make a case for a .22 as a defensive weapon with all the kids present.
What do you know about the accuracy and fire discipline of those people? Have they had any training whatsoever on target discrimination and quick kill?
