Nivedita Bhasin became the world’s youngest commercial airline captain in 1989, but the Indian pilot still recalls her early years when other crew would urge her to rush into the cockpit so passengers wouldn’t get nervous at the sight of a woman flying their plane.
Three decades after Bhasin’s career began, female pilots are no longer a rarity in India, making the country a success story when it comes to diversity in the airline industry. India has the highest percentage of female pilots globally, the International Society of Women Airline Pilots estimates, with about 12.4% of all pilots women, compared with 5.5% in the US, the world’s largest aviation market, and 4.7% in the UK.

Did you have to ruin my day by mentioning the despicable corrupt senile “elected” leader? He is disgusting.
Must be too many babies aborted /S
Please see my take in post #95.
You dare call the very best person for the job the democrats could find despicable?
That’s deplorable!
In the US, this is true because it’s what they’re told to do starting in pre-school.
In India, I’m sure they hear a lot less of this bs and a lot more about familial duty. Which can be oppressive in it’s own way. They have a high rate of student suicide like many other asian cultures because of the pressure for academic success is familial and not just individual.
It’s one thing to feel like you are failing yourself, but imagine feeling like the whole family (aunties and cousins, too) is depending on you to succeed. Especially if you are on an education/career track you actually hate.
Four times the population?
Yes, that’s true.
About 4 times the population.
He is an actor, not a pilot.
His movies have been very entertaining.
Things in movies work differently than in real life.
I worked at Sigonella NAS for five years. The Sicilians drive crazy but I never even had a fender bender. The only time I got hit was in the exchange parking lot... by a female P3 pilot. While I was parked..... FWIW.
First thing that came on my mind because I saw the movie recently. 😎
For whatever reason, the South Korean women just kill it on the LPGA Tour.
I think that should apply to every single job but you're right--there are some jobs that have no business playing the aa game.
I think I would enjoy golf but there are so many things I already enjoy. If only we could double a day and our lives :)
How does India have twice as many women airline pilots as the US?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I don’t know, but on a flight last year, upon landing passengers were informed they had just flown on a plane with an all-female flight crew. When I heard that I damn near wet my pants!
This.🤔
Why? Women pilots have safer track record than men pilots in commercial aviation. Fighter pilots are another story.
Four times is closer to truth. Indian population counting was never accurate.
Women pilots have safer track record than men pilots in commercial aviation.

I’m not surprised to hear there are such records, but I would have questions concerning their validity.
