Water levels have dropped in major rivers across Europe as the region suffers under a historic drought. In those dry riverbeds, centuries-old warning messages have emerged, locals report. The “horrifying” boulders are known as “Hungersteine,” or “Hunger Stones,” local German reporter Olaf Koens said in an Aug. 11 tweet. One of these stones is embedded in the Elbe River, which runs from the mountains of Czechia through Germany to the North Sea, POLITICO journalist Aitor Hernández-Morales tweeted the same day.
The stone, dating back to a drought in 1616, is once again visible in the dry riverbed, Hernández-Morales said. The warning reads, “Wenn du mich seehst, dann weine” – “If you see me, weep.” “Hunger stones” like this one were used as “hydrological landmarks” across central Europe, NPR reported when the stones last surfaced during a 2018 drought.
These stones are “chiselled with the years of hardship and the initials of authors lost to history,” a team of Czech researchers wrote in a 2013 study. “The basic inscriptions warn of the consequences of drought. It expressed that drought had brought a bad harvest, lack of food, high prices and hunger for poor people.” The stones commemorate historic droughts, the researchers said.

We learn something everyday. My take way is man made global warming was a major problem in the early 1600’s too. Man must have been screwing up Mother Gaia since Adam and Eve. (Is a sarcasm tag really necessary for the slow people)
It is a shame that people have not developed a way to build locks and dams to manage water levels.
This proves these stones were once above water and now are not. It’s almost like the water level is cyclical.
It is all cycle...a 400 year cycle....not climate change

too technical and explanation for most these days.
“...the stones last surfaced during a 2018 drought.”
Not all that unusual, then.
“It is all cycle...a 400 year cycle....not climate change.”
Exactly.
Thanks...Nothing really unusual going on...we’ve had ALL these things happen before. The difference is...the population of the earth....not climate.
Looks like an historic drought that has taken place with regular frequency. I don’t see anything new except for the witnesses and that there are more of them, probably too many more.
Too many cows 400 years ago.
My take way is man made global warming was a major problem in the early 1600’s too.
There can be no doubt as to the cause of the 1616 drought.
It was brought on by the growing popularity and widespread use of those new SUV's in the renaissance.
Those peasants/serfs suffered from gas causing climate change.
Ya, 400 years ago they knew that when river levels are that low, it won’t rain tomorrow.....
The technique of building locks and dams was known long before the 1600’s. How do you think the Netherlands became the only country to increase in size without waging war for territory? They fought the sea using the technique of locks and dams.
Well, the outlet may have reported this but there's no evidence that these events are more frequent than in the deep past (as the stones themselves show), nor that there is any human activity connected to them, apart from the perennial emphasis on catastrophism.
Maybe too many SUV's...

It’s funny how the Climate Church Cardinals don’t realize they give the game away with these stories of ancient droughts, floods, etc.
The Indians who built the Mesa Verde cliff dwellings were run off by a drought 1200 years ago. Apparently their campfires caused that one.

So, drought has happened lots over time?
You mean to say climates change? Right?
