The amount of gas and oil is seriously underestimated since your hero’s invasion of Crimea in 2014 ran off the US oil companies before they could find what they had contracted for in 2012—to explore for those very resources. In fact those contracts, not NATO fears, was probably the trigger for the Crimea theft. The gas is probably the big prize, and more favored by climate worriers as a transition fuel in a move to lower CO2 emmisions.
