Neapolitan grandmas, no less. That was hilarious!
“A frisbee.” 😄
“Why they have to killa the food?” 😂
I remember when they admitted their pizza sucked. It did get better.
But Dominos is wayyyyy better than little caesers! Thats got to be the worst pizza ever!!!
Indeed!
Talk about taking coal to Newcastle! Can't think of much dumber (except maybe Manchu Wok opening a dim sum joint in Guangzhou).
Starbucks failed spectacularly in Australia. Ever since the end of WW2 Australia has developed a big coffee café culture with the waves of southern European and Mediterranean immigrants. I’m not a coffee drinker but my friends who are describe Starbucks as expensive, pretentious, pig swill.
Yes, exactly. My parents were born in Italy. We make homemade pizza that we serve as an appetizer in a larger meal, or for a snack/light lunch with other things like cheese and meat. All the same, they got pretty used to American-style pizza as a main meal and they don't turn up their noses at it.
Mmm...I get the argument, but it's more complicated than that.
There are Albanian and Greek communities in southern Italy that have been there for hundreds of years and they are still referred to as such regardless of how those communities are perceived in Albania or Greece. Everyone knows they are Italianized...but there are still strong ethnic links to their homelands.
I'm not sure by what logic Italians in the US are considered not Italian while the Arberesh in Italy are considered Albanian.
One can almost think of Italian Americans as a regional variation of Italians. Piemontesi, Abruzzesi, Siciliani, and Italo-Americani. We are even allowed to vote in Italian elections.
Honestly, I think Italians are ticked because our "regional" Italian-American cuisine is all over the world now, and everyone mistakenly thinks it's from Italy proper.
It appears there's one Taco Bell in Mexico and it is a simple taco stand that has nothing to do with the franchise.
There is a Taco Bell on the nice outdoor mall directly on the U.S. side of the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing. The first place you can eat when you cross the border. Welcome to America!
I don’t eat Domino’s here, I sure wouldn’t eat it in Italy. Call me a pizza snob (I grew up in Connecticut) and there are many great pizza places. My dad said (in the 70s) when we first are at Domino’s that the box would taste better. It is a hit or a miss in quality.
That's exactly what I was alluding to. Pizza from Naples is nothing like American pizza. Italians don't eat things like Fettuccine Alfredo. And when I hear Americans of Italian heritage use truncations of Italian words (like 'mootz' instead of mozzarella) as though they are somehow 'really authentic' it makes me cringe. But that's just me.
Sam, I am trying to get away from readymade foods. They are loaded with sodium and sugars.
No worries. Those foods I posted are from the 1970s. If you happen to stumble across them, put them aside. They might be worth money on eBay.
I don’t know if Starbucks even tried in Italy. There were Starbucks on every other corner in London and other places I visited in the ‘00s, but I didn’t see a single one in Italy.
I suspect it was for the same reason they failed in Australia; there are lovely independent cappuccino and espresso shops all over the place in Italy. Starbucks would be as big an insult as Domino’s there.
That looks like a pizza I could like. Thanks for the info. This is a slice from my favorite place, which is a little hole in the wall out in the middle of nowhere.
That’s the kind I like.
