Put me in the camp that believes that McConnell still thinks the Senate is the olde tyme collegial exclusive club with sacred traditions. He probably believed that Schumer's deal with him would be binding, because that's what the olde tyme Senators did. Their word was their currency, and their six-year terms meant that they had to deal in good faith with each other or nothing would ever get done once someone backstabs another, squandering their accumulated goodwill.

That's why McConnell always takes the minority power of forcing a government shutdown off the table every time the Democrats play brinksmanship with the budget. He somehow still believes in the sanctity of the Senate, while everyone around him is scheming to blow the place up.

Which shows he’s still politically naive. Trump needs to realize that 85% of congress are the enemy of the people.

McConnell got his cut. That’s all he cares about.

Trump is completely wrong on this. McConnel didn’t get played, he knows completely what he has done. He’s deep state.

What could McConnell do? Not one single GOP Senator, even the “bad” ones, voted for it.

And the two Dems - over whom he has no control - who might have voted with the GOP didn’t because, after all, this is Biden’s “signature” bill.

This is why we need a numerical majority in both Houses. Whoever is in charge of the Senate or the House can get their own parties in line, if they’re good, but they have no chance if the numbers aren’t there.

It helps to understand mcconnel's actions when you realize he is not on our side.He is the poster boy for the Uniparty.

Trump said. “Mitch doesn’t have a clue – he is sooo bad for the Republican Party!”

I'm not tired of Trump being right all the time. Mitch has stayed too long, he needs to get out of the way.

In this particular case, how could he have prevented this? He had no power to stop it.

McConnel didn’t get played, he knows completely what he has done.

And what would that be? What did he do to help this bill pass, and what could he have done to prevent it?

In this instance Trump is wrong.

McConnell didn’t get “played”. He was a willing partner who only feigned opposition

At one time it was believed McConnell was quite smart but that was long ago. Democrats are running circles around him in their sleep.
