Legendary Jiu-jitsu fighter Leandro Lo was fatally shot Sunday at a Sao Paulo concert, according to reports.

A lawyer for the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion confirmed that his client, 33, died after being declared brain-dead from the shooting, according to a report by MMA Fighting.

The killing allegedly took place during a confrontation between Lo and Police Officer Henrique Otávio Oliveira Velozo, the outlet reported.

Witnesses said Velozo grabbed a bottle from Lo’s table and that the fighter took the cop down and held him, according to the outlet, citing a police report.

After the pair were separated, Velozo allegedly pulled out a gun, firing a round into Lo’s forehead, according to the site.

Lo had dominated the sport since 2011, winning eight World Championships titles – which made him one of the most decorated jiu-jitsu fighters of all time. Just earlier this year, he won another World Championship in California, the site reported.

Don’t bring an arm bar to a gun fight.

It’s possible that Lo did not know that Velozo was a police officer. Anyway,

Rule #2: Do not get into a wrestling match with a cop. If you’re winning you’re probably gonna get shot.

“Brought Jiu Jitsu to a gun fight..”

He took the cop down. The cop shot him after the “fight”.

Not exactly serving and protecting the public. There is a role for the police, but this isn't it.

Military police officer Henrique Otávio Oliveira Velozo , 30, presented himself to the Military Police Internal Affairs on Sunday afternoon (7) and was taken to the police station, according to the Public Security Department . Velozo is accused of the murder of one of the biggest names in the history of world jiu-jitsu , 33-year-old Brazilian Leandro Lo . He will be heard and then sent to the Romão Gomes Prison.

A source close to the family said that the shooter approached Leandro’s group of friends and, in a provocative tone, shook a bottle of whiskey that was on the table. To protect himself, the fighter tripped the boy and immobilized him. Once released, the man walked a few steps, turned around and fired. One of the witnesses reported that he kicked Leandro twice, even though he was unconscious.

Pointless, ugly behavior for an MP. Really sad.

Second degree murder sounds about right, given the circumstances.

Last week we had a man in New York shot to death over supposedly cold french fries. Now this? Has the entire world gone insane?

Have a Filipino friend who was in a fender bender with a cop who was the son of a bigwig in the Philipines. The cop pointed a gun at my friend and threatened to shoot him. Fortunately, he didn’t. There are some countries where power rules and citizens have few rights.

That policeman should be tried for murder, convicted, and then executed like the common but dangerous criminal he is.

Lo was a 9 time world champion in Gracie Jūjutsu coming from Brazilian Jiu=jitsu being taught early as Judo by Mitsuyo Maeda from Japan founder Kanō Jigorō. This art is basically a ground fighting technique in the early teachings and is used by the American military for their combatives. The art is taught in four levels by instructors with the last level being the most lethal.

If you look at combative martial arts like muay thai, boxing, and wrestling, they may not train you clearly for self-defense. But they do train you for combat against a resisting opponent. This training will help you in a real self-defense situation but has also been modified to more deadly strikes and locks.

Notable actors who have studied Brazilian Jiu Jitsu over the years include Jim Carrey, Mel Gibson, Nicolas Cage, Milla Jojovich, Chris Conrad, martial arts movie star Jason Scott Lee and Keanu Reeves, as well as, director and writer David Mamet. The best known were Chuck Norris 3rd degree black belt and instructor, Joe Rogan 1st degree black belt, and Ed O’Neill 1st degree black belt.

If Lo had wanted to harm him, he could have easily. But he let him go as the conflict appeared to quiet down.
