So Ukraine is winning again this week? I get confused because news coverage on this is like political coverage, who’s winning depends on which news outlet you watch or read.

It was, until the past few days, when they got cocky and moved the heavy stuff south for the Million Man March.

Probably best for you to stick with Daily Mail.

The invincible Russian military armed with leading edge weapons of overwhelming destructive force is continuing to defeat the inferior and terminally corrupt ragtag force fielded by Ukraine. An unending supply of Russian Colonels and Generals sacrifice them selves as they lead the victorious charge /S

It was already happening since 2014 with Ukrainian Military attacking Ukraines Donbass area killing their own people......so stop ignoring the fact there was conflict in Ukraine long before Russia went into Ukraine.

TOTALLY DISAGREE.
Putin has wanted to invade Ukraine since the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. In August 1991 with a referendum three months later, on December 1, confirmed the decision overwhelming with: 84% turnout the overall majority of over 90% voted for Ukraine independence.
**Most significantly, the vote in those regions with a larger proportion of Russian-speakers also voted the same way: Odesa, 85% votes for independence, in Luhansk 83%, in Donetsk, 77% and in Crimea over 54%.
This completely supports the desire for a separate Ukrainian population identity.

Certainly the case last week, but feel free to stick to Daily Mail - it’s probably best.

Russian octopus This is how Russia was portrayed in 1870: Russia with tentacles from its center crossing borders to grab land from other nations.

Putin is just trying to create his legacy. He thinks of himself as Peter the Great. I think of him as Ivan the terrible. After Ivan the Terrible consolidated his power, Ivan got rid of his advisers from the “Chosen Council” and triggered the Livonian War, which ravaged Russia but gave him greater autocratic control. Ivan the Terrible violently purged with the Oprichnina [period between 1565 and 1572] creating domestic policy of: secret police, mass repressions, public executions, and confiscation of land from Russian aristocrats. His later years were marked by the Massacre of Novgorod and the burning of Moscow by Tatars. Ivan the Terrible was described as intelligent but given to: paranoia, rage, and episodic outbreaks of mental instability that increased with his age. In one fit of anger, he murdered his eldest son and heir, Ivan Ivanovich, and caused the miscarriage of the son’s unborn child. Ivan the Terrible the sadistic and brutal deeds included drowning and roasting people alive or torturing victims with boiling or freezing water. In 1558, Ivan started the LIVONIAN WAR attempting to gain access to the Baltic Sea and its major trade routes. The war ultimately proved unsuccessful and stretched on for 24 YEARS with Sweden, Lithuania, the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Teutonic Knights of Livonia. This prolonged war had nearly destroyed the economy, and the Oprichnina had thoroughly disrupting the government. Hmmm, how Putinesque!

Crappy year to be a conscript in Russia. Or even an oligarch. But even Putin’s having a bad year.
Seems like Russian neo-imperialism, the last vestige of the Euro neo-imperialism is going down. Good. It is a highly corrupt and very destructive system. It consumes people.

You stated that if Mexico did what Ukraine did we would invade.
Ukraine never did what you claimed.

The Taliban, unlike the Russians, relied largely on light infantry tactics with a very short logistical tail. The Russians are dependent upon masses of artillery and concentrated firepower, and so are vulnerable to supply disruption in a way the Taliban was not.

Even worse to be a Ukrainian conscript, be given an AK to share with another conscript, be dumped in a Front Line trench.
“Seems like Russian neo-imperialism is going down.”
Let me know when it starts. So far I only see Russia rolling up Russian-speaking lands.
By the way, you guys get that war with China started yet?

The biggest one was that the Taliban was fighting the US, which for its own internal political reasons was unwilling to do what it took to control the Afghan population.
That is, implement a system of reconcentration/ “strategic villages”/ethnic cleansing or what have you You mean carry out mass genocides of Afghan civilians etc etc?
How's that worked out for any regime/occupier/invader anywhere?
To: Bruce Campbells Chin
The Russians are also vastly better armed and produce vast quantities of arms and ammunition themselves (is the world's second biggest arms exporter), without having to buy them or get given them by anybody like Ukraine is.
To: SmokingJoe
It worked for the Soviet Union in “winning over” its own people. It worked for the British in South Africa, and for the Spanish in Cuba, until the Americans declared war and changed that game. It worked for the US in parts of the Philippines, 1899-1902. It worked for the British in Malaya, but they only had to do it for a fraction of the population. It worked for the US in Vietnam, eventually, hence crushing the Viet Cong. But the US abandoned that now-conventional war for its own internal political reasons.
Etc.
