Russian prosecutors asked a court outside Moscow to sentence American basketball star Brittney Griner to 9 1/2 years in prison as closing arguments in her cannabis possession trial were made Thursday.
The trial is nearing its end nearly six months after Griner’s arrest at a Moscow airport and subsequent detention, a case that has reached the highest levels of U.S.-Russia diplomacy. She faces up to 10 years in prison, if convicted
Although a conviction appears almost certain, given that Russian courts rarely acquit defendants and Griner has acknowledged having vape cartridges with cannabis oil in her luggage, judges have considerable latitude on sentencing.

I don't think she hates America - I could only find that one incident where she was supporting George Floyd and didn’t want the National Anthem played along with other girls on her team.
I do believe outside of her sport, which she certainly excels in, her private life is bumpy to say the least. And I get the feel she can be taken advantage of. Her 28 day marriage to a lesbo evidenced that as her partner was pregnanat with twins she now has to support.
As i understand it she tried several times to call off the wedding - however her partner was after the payday that would and did come.

If or not it was an oversight on her part, because she’s a sports celebrity Russia was going to milk this for all it’s worth. She really should have known better to check her luggage going into Russia - now she’s paying a steep price for her recklessness.
Heck I made a large withdrawal from my checking account at the bank and couldn’t believe all the questions the teller asked. Anymore I’m prepared for the unusual as it pops up everywhere now.
I think for her things we wouldn’t think are difficult - are. Besides calling off a wdding is no easy task for most.

But—it is your life—you own it—and at the end of the day everybody else can go ^%$# themselves if they are trying to convince you to marry someone you do not want to marry.
There are many cases where the bride or groom have no-showed at their own wedding—it is a big decision and they made it—at the last minute!

lap, just listened to her Attorneys who said that her sentence was severe - the maximum is 10 yrs for such an offsnse and the average is a 5 yr. sentence with chance for parol. So they apparently think she had intent after all..

She’ll be spending some months now at whatever penal colony they send her to, while her attorneys appeal and Putin and Biden debate a prison exchange. Either or sh will taste prison life in Russia. At 31 her career is pretty much over now.
