WASHINGTON (AP) — A Texas man convicted of storming the U.S. Capitol with a holstered handgun helmet and body armor was sentenced on Monday to 87 months — more than seven years — in prison, the longest sentence imposed so far among hundreds of Capitol riot cases.
Prosecutors said Guy Reffitt told fellow members of the Texas Three Percenters militia group that he planned to drag House Speaker Nancy Pelosi out of the Capitol building by her ankles, “with her head hitting every step on the way down,” according to a court filing.
Reffitt was the first person to go on trial for the Jan. 6, 2021, attack, in which supporters of then-President Donald Trump halted the joint session of Congress for certifying Joe Biden’s 2020 electoral victory.
U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich presided over Reffitt's jury trial.
Justice Department prosecutors recommended a 15-year prison sentence for Reffitt, who already has been jailed for approximately 19 months. They said he was a militia group member who intended to drag lawmakers out of the building and take over Congress to stop the certification of the Electoral College vote.

Dragging pelosi out and her head hitting every step on the way out. That gives a funny image.
I think the author just missed a comma. But then again he could be referring to the Pratt Helmet Gun.
Where’s the FBI as defendants trial for storming private homes with guns, for political reasons?
😁
I didn’t think anyone who went into the capitol building was armed that day.
From the article:
Reffitt was armed with a Smith & Wesson pistol in a holster on his waist, carrying zip-tie handcuffs and wearing body armor and a helmet equipped with a video camera when he advanced on the officers, according to prosecutors. He retreated after an officer pepper sprayed him in the face, but he waved on other rioters who ultimately breached the building, prosecutors said.
Sounds like he wasn't in the building.
If Republicans take over leadership of the House and the Senate in 2022 (I hope conservatives) and Trump is re-elected in 2024, it will be a huge struggle to get the country back on even keel...Our federal law enforcement , judicial, and governmental departments are so totally screwed up, it will be a task....
some of the protestors exercised their constitutional right to bear arms and had weapons on their person. But none of the protestors ever drew their weapon.
Sounds like his heart was in the right place.
Capital but not building apparently.
Except the piece of shit that killed Ashli Babbitt. Who by the way, has never been charged.

three lies in half a sentence??? What’s more to be said?
Exactly!
Armed and “going towards officers” is a good way to die.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
“Gotta watch out for those deadly handgun helmets.”
And storms. I’d imagine if you went in with a storm you could get electrocuted. It was amazing that Joe Btfsplk never got electrocuted as I’d imagine him when someone goes “storming.”

D.C. is a gun free zone. It is next to impossible to get a concealed carry permit in D.C. Just possessing a bullet is a major crime there.
This is the guy that his own young son turned him in to the FBI, I believe! I think he even testified against him. But no, he never entered the capitol.
Aspirin not included.
At his trial, Reffitt’s 19-year-old son Jackson — who turned his father in to law enforcement — told the jury that he had learned of his father’s membership in the mob when he saw his mother and sister watching news coverage of the events that day. Jackson described the threat his dad had made against him and his sister, Peyton, when they tried to turn him in: “If you turn me in you’re a traitor, and traitors get shot.”
Apparently one of his daughters was calling for Trump to be imprisoned for life.
