What Happens When The Last Coal Ship Leaves Hawaii?
gCaptain ^ | July 31, 2022 | John Konrad

Posted on 08/01/2022 6:20:44 AM PDT by artichokegrower

The Hawaiian islands’ coal shipments are ending. The bulker carrying the state’s final coal shipment will leave this week after refueling the state’s last coal-fired power plant. That plant is scheduled to close in September forcing the state’s energy providers to compete with the US Navy for oil tankers.

AES Hawaii, operator of the largest power plant on Oahu, received 15,000 tons of Indonesian coal from the Liberian flag bulker MV Flying Tiger. The 180-megawatt plant is the biggest source of the island’s electricity and provided 13% of the state’s overall power in 2018.

This is all Trump’s fault....

If only he hadn’t repeatedly said “beautiful, clean coal.....” at all his rallies

we have to end “fossil fuels”
= = =

But that energy from the Sun is from a system much older than our ‘fossils’. And it is Nuke, to boot.

So, we need to put out the Sun. Not just shade it.

That and there can be interesting questions for Hirono.

I predict brown outs leading to blackouts.
= = =

I suspect we will be brainwashed into new words for ‘brown out’ and ‘blackout’. Racist and all that. Maybe ‘Trump out’.

Besides that, when the electricity stops, the ferals do come out.

Fortunately for us, the noted scientist AOC is working on the problem. From the looks of this photo, she’s close to a solution.

No, I am not God.

I am made of dirt and water, as you and the Tahitians are.

The Tahitians claim they are “native” to Hawaii based on the time they have been there.

Time has nothing to do with their claim.

They did not originate on Hawaii.

They are only some people who came there by boat.

“This will be an interesting experiment that we all on the mainland can watch.”

I have a friend who relocated to Hawaii to retire. Looking forward to “on the scene” reports as this unfolds.

Do you understand the word “native”?

Definition of native (Entry 1 of 2) 1 : inborn, innate native talents

2 : belonging to a particular place by birth a native New Yorker

3 archaic : closely related

4 : belonging to or associated with one by birth hailed in his native Sweden as an influential dramatist— William Peden

5 : natural, normal a generosity that was native to him

6a : grown, produced, or originating in a particular place or in the vicinity : local native fruits and vegetables

b : living or growing naturally in a particular region : indigenous native wildlife of Australia

I am native American. I was born here, as was my father/mother, his father/mother, on down the line. I'm white as rice. I am not clear on why so many seem to struggle with our language. It's odd.

Where does the other 87% of HI electricity come from?
How much is geothermal?
Iceland pretty much powers their whole country/island from geothermal.

This is from the EIA:

QUICK FACTS
“Hawaii was the first state to set a deadline for having 100% of its electricity sales come from renewable energy, which is required to be achieved by 2045. In 2020, the state’s power suppliers met the interim requirement that 30% of electricity sales come from renewables.
Despite being among the five states with the lowest total energy consumption, Hawaii uses about 12 times more energy than it produces. More than four-fifths of Hawaii’s energy consumption is petroleum, making it the most petroleum-dependent state.
In 2020, solar power provided almost 17% of Hawaii’s total electricity, primarily from the increase in generation from small-scale, customer-sited solar panel systems that nearly doubled since 2015.
In 2020, the amount of Hawaii’s coal-fired generation was the lowest since 1992, and coal fueled 11% of the state’s electricity generation. The state’s single coal-fired power plant is scheduled to close in 2022.
Hawaii has the highest electricity retail price of any state and it is nearly triple the U.S. average rate, in part because the state relies on imported petroleum for 60% of its electricity generation.

When tourists can’t turn on the lights, coal might make a comeback.

Adam and Eve

Just to stretch the point.

The plants were the first natives. And they really were ‘Green’.

Adam and Eve were interlopers.

And this would be a good reason to eliminate most of the humans from the planet.

“What Happens When The Last Coal Ship Leaves Hawaii?”

Let me take a stab at that question.

Once they have to compete with the Navy for Oil reserves, the Chi-Coms will make their move n Taiwan and the Navy will need ever ship in the Pacific.

The Nave will “commandeer” all oil in Hawaii for the “war effort” ... sorry Hawaiians, you’ll just need to party like its 1899.

There seems to be a similar push afoot with respect to American farming, but the concern here is supposedly about small particles of dust — P2.5, I believe they’re called — that are kicked up by farming activity and can get in our lungs.

It’s CO2 or nitrogen oxides or dust, but the end seems to be to reduce farm output — the logical end of the mitigation measures — in affected countries.

Yep and solar ain’t gonna help either....it rains there more than not.

Maybe they need a wind turbine farm on top of Diamond Head.....that should be astetically pleasing to the tourists.
