I wasn’t aware of those escapee figures, and I’m surprised there are that many. As far as endangering the public repetitively, I don’t see how it could be otherwise!

Indiana has a death penalty statute, although it is rarely prosecuted all the way to the ideath chamber. The jury must find one of 18 enumerated circumstances to exist before recommending the death penalty, but one of those happens to be the killing of a police officer in his line of duty. If the jury unanimously recommends the death penalty, the judge must impose the sentence.

The vast majority of death penalty eligible cases end up with plea agreements with a sentence of life without parole.

It's really sad about the new cop's death. All LEOs need to ne always alert, and ready to draw and kill. You and I need to be very careful to move slowly or not at all when we gain a LEO's attention until we prove beyond question our own trustworthiness.
