Excerpted:
The neighborhood has reportedly become a hub of homeless people taking advantage of vacant homes, with neighbors saying that they now live in fear for their safety.
According to KGW8, neighbors have begun barricading unused doors in their houses, investing in security systems, and buying things like baseball bats intended for self protection.
"It’s unbearable to watch your whole city become a dumpster fire," said Annette Benedetti, who lives near homes on Southeast 67th Avenue that have sat abandoned and have since had numerous homeless people move in, with RVs lining the streets.
In early July, Benedetti said that 16 homeless people had moved into the neighborhood.
"It’s a living nightmare," added Dustin Shannon, another neighbor who has lived there for 19 years. "There’s no peace of mind, there is no sleeping well at night — every little noise, I’m jumpy."
Shannon’s backyard is next to one of these Southeast Portland vacant homes, and he frequently picks up needles and trash from a path that runs behind his house, an area that he no longer lets his grandson play in.
"It just gets worse and worse by the day, more and more of them are showing up," he said. "Stolen cars are showing up, they’ve got a pile of garbage out back that is taller than me."
Both Benedetti and Shannon describe violence and shootings in the area, with limited police response due to staffing shortfalls.

So how’s that defunding the police working out?
Vote Democrat!!
The best entertainment available is watching Democrats eat themselves.
Elections have consequences. Long lasting consequences.
Will November help? Think again.
Portland government is seriously considering re-arranging the chairs at city hall.
Portland and other cities like it will go the way of Detroit. Basically, turn many neighborhoods into Mogadishu.

Folks like Benedetti and Shannon should start a grass-roots organization to get MAGA candidates elected to local offices. But I bet they won’t. I bet that come November they’ll carefully sidestep all the debris on their street, and go vote straight D at the voting booth.
They make specialized baseball bats intended for self-defense?
My youngest daughter moved there for a year in 2017. She lived in a duplex on 51st Ave & Woodstock in SE Portland. They had homeless ppl living in the neighborhood park about 2 blocks away at that time. I’d hate to see it now.
Those are strictly “assault bats”.
I’ve seen a Lucille replica in some catalog or other.
Liberals never think about consequences of their bad policies until it is too late.
Howdja vote Annette?
The mentality of a government that coddles the likes of Antifa is a dysfunctional government from whom you can expect many conditions to worsen over time.
Too bad we have no laws where a city or state can be declared dysfunctional and a higher authority appoint a temporary regime to stay in authority until all the messes are cleaned up, public order restored, laws enforced, public security maintained, and a new public charter established to continue the improvements that had to be imposed.
Yeah, they’re black and go BANG.
Yes, it’s the much maligned “assault bat”.

AR 15 style Batz! You should see the hollow points on those!
I don’t see the Dems maintaining control of the House in November (and I doubt they do as well) but their goal at this point is to minimize losses. As we have seen over the decades the Dems don’t need majorities to get most of what they want because they can always count on intimidating Republicans to accept/support their liberal agenda. As we see all too often the Republicans are absolutely terrified by the Democrats and their pals in the liberal media.
Whenever Republican “win” they still seem to lose. They simply have no interest in leading. Democrats are smart enough to exploit perennial Republican weakness — and unlike the Republicans, the Democrats are permanently on offense. They never let up.
Trust me, within a few short months after the election we’ll all be disappointed with the Republican “majority” all over again. Some things never change.
