Protests have erupted in Buenos Aires over the past 90 days and continue to build inside the capital as residents battle with their center-left government over sizeable amendments to social programs.
Cuts to subsidies in the energy sector based on household income already began in June.
Other subsidies, including the country’s notorious welfare program, are also on the chopping block, triggering thousands of angry residents to take to the streets.
State-sponsored aid for civilians has soared in the past 20 years, leaving 22 million Argentinians dependent on some form of government assistance. However, for the 1.2 million members dependent on the social program Empower Work, which is an income subsidy that provides a living wage for an indefinite period of time, working a regular job is out of the question.
“The government expects us to work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the same amount of money,” an outraged female Buenos Aires resident and piquetero lamented to reporters during a live news broadcast.
When asked where how she’d been earning income for her household, the woman replied, “the government.”
Another protester, an adult male, also decried the proposed welfare program changes telling local reporters, “Cristina [Kirchner] told us we have to go to work instead of receiving social benefits. Going to work, that’s the policy of a right winger.”

I don’t understand. All of our Leftist economists say that inflation means that the economy is just growing too fast. It’s like they base their theories on a flawed premise or two. Sorry, President Nixon, but we are not all Keynesians now. Haven’t been for a while, except at the Fed.

Government which spends other peoples earned money, where spending money can buy votes, that has all the typical government lack in efficiency, can expand government but never shrink it back down even if the original cause/purpose is gone... has a tendency to spend more that they really should.
Today in the US, government at all levels (city, county, state, federal) account for >45% of the GDP and that's STILL not enough. Government never has enough and they have become extremely good at selling themselves i.e the proverbial “I'm from the Government, and I'm here to help.” Government help create a TSA, worthless; DEA, worthless and redundant where they do provide an added value; Department of Education, worthless; the Covid disaster, that was the government shutting down the economy which ***caused*** the real mess and do you really think they accomplished anything?
We need government at various levels which serve different roles. However, they have a defined purpose and role and need to stay within their boundaries. It is the private sector which produces wealth. Today in the US, you have a President deciding that by 2030 50% of all new car sales should be EVs. From how much water per flush a toilet uses, to the light bulb you use in the bathroom so you can find the toilet, government today has empowered itself to regulate/tax and subsidize just about everything.
At this point, we make fun of many of these socialist nations, but truth be told, we are just a shade less socialist than say a Germany (~48% GDP government outside of
Covid). It is long past time to enact a debt jubilee. The Federal reserve should be abolished, the fiat currency abolished with the dollar based on oil, the holders of US debt should be told to pound sand, and all debt for citizens declared bull and void. That is the Great Reset that needs to happen. Take the established money and power to zero.
All because Democrats and Republicans spent trillions on COVID creating inflation.
There will be a pause after the GOP wins the midterms and before it becomes clear that they won’t do anything to save the nation.
