Who says the end of the world won’t be all fun and games?
Two weeks after releasing a bizarre public service announcement about what to do if a nuke falls on Gotham — offered little advice beyond “get inside” and “stay inside” — New York City’s Emergency Management agency tweeted about what to pack in a “go bag” in the event of a mass evacuation.
The tweet featured a cartoon of children’s backpacks filled with homework, toys and Nintendo Switch and Game Boy consoles. A puzzle, a teddy bear, a rubber duck, video game controllers, rulers and a scarf were also shown.
The post links to Emergency Management’s webpage with a list of bug out bag essentials, including food, water, first aid kits and copies of personal documents.
But fallout to the cartoonish guidance came swiftly after...
...Anna Bounds, a professor of sociology at Queens College with expertise on the urban “prepper” subculture, said there’s a jarring disconnect between the tweet’s intent and the cartoon, describing it as cavalier.
“This isn’t as serious as it should be,” she said. “It does act as a reminder to bring some of your children’s favorite things, but electronic devices won’t last you very long. The image looks like clip art for a back-to school-post — a real mismatch.”

Great minds think alike.
> OK, you’ve got your ammo. Isn’t there something that should go along with it?
aha... i think you are correct!! ;)
It's NYC - they go to the Jersey shore....
:) Yes they do!
Underground. Somewhere that wasn’t targeted like a mountain top, or a valley between mountains, somewhere with overhead cover to mitigate fallout (radioactive ash) landing on you. There’s places to go and places to hide from it. Think like a survivor.
Every time I see one of those “no where to go, nothing to do” types, I always think “sweet. More gear and provisions for us”
It ain’t gonna be pretty and we’re gonna have to be cutthroats to survive, and I’ve got a family and training and the desire to care for those I love.
I HATE it when people roll over and quit. Someone relies on you. Get brutal. Get mean. It’s the only way you’re gonna make it.
I've heard all the conspiracy theories about how the authorities are expecting something, and to those I say maybe.
But more likely it's just that the authorities always need some hysteria, because that's how they govern.
You don’t need an EMP to knock out the grid in Texas. The evironmentalists running ERCOT can do a pretty good job via regulation.
Years ago, I bought a bag of 100 P-38s for about $20. Gave away a bunch to friends and coworkers, stashed a bunch around the place and in all the vehicles, and still have maybe 50 in the bag.
Here’s all you really need to know:
Fire in the Sky
Saxon
There’s a fire in the sky
There’s a feeling in the air
When the ground starts to tremble
The first attack is here
You won’t stand a chance
When the missiles start to fly
They never tell the people
Till the holocaust is here
When the fire’s in the sky
You’ll be running for your lives
When the fire’s in the sky
Prepare yourselves to die
Where, where are the shelters
They said they would be there
You’ll need, need some protection
From the radiation flare
Don’t, don’t start a panic
It won’t do you no good
You’ll just have to wait
For the end of all mankind
If you’re near the point of impact
There’s nowhere you can run
If the heatwave don’t get you
The shockwave surely will
There won’t be no more heroes
There’s no one left to fight
It’s the end of our planet
We’d commit eternal sight
When the fire’s in the sky
You’ll be running for your lives
When the fire’s in the sky
Prepare yourselves to die
When the fire’s in the sky
You’ll be running for your lives
When the fire’s in the sky
Prepare yourselves to die
To die, to die, to die ...
I did the same with IBM flowcharting templates.
I think I’ll get more use out of the P-38s.
Red scarf. Is NYC gonna be sucided.
The question is why is FedGov amping up this B.S. now. Are they hoping to provoke a nuclear war? Do they think constantly terrorizing the public is of benefit to them? If so, they’re even dumber than I thought. Most people under a constant barrage of threats will eventually tune out. Think of the boy who cried wolf.
Just get a genuine Swiss Army knife.
“Where do these idiots think they’re gonna go?”
Down in the sewers with the albino alligators and C.H.U.D.
Ha! I thought about mentioning P38s-51s in my post. I bought a handful of 51s at a surplus shop. They were stamped US but I can’t believe they were authentic. The hook that goes under the can rim bent the first time I tried them. They were cheap soft metal. I wish I could find the real thing. I had planed to give them as gifts to my young nieces/nephews but would have been embarrassed if I had.
I’m going with food, water and ammo.
With some iodine thrown in.
5.56mm
So it seems. ;-D
