I was wrong about Trump
American Thinker ^ | July 27, 2022 | By M.B. Mathews

Posted on 07/30/2022 10:36:27 AM PDT by conservative98

I recently wrote a column about why I believed Trump should not run in 2024. I was wrong. I allowed my distaste for Trump’s personality to override his virtues, which are considerable. Some people want Trump without his vices. I was among them -- until yesterday, when I watched and listened to Tom Klingenstein’s speech titled “Trump’s virtues.”  It was masterful and shamed me that I did not make the distinction between Trump's character and his virtues, the former being deeply flawed, the latter being almost perfect. I need to man up in my defense of the former President's virtues. The speech was among the most pointed I have heard and deserves some exposure. Klingenstein says:

Other Republicans say some version of “I like Trump policies but I don’t like the rest of him.” This gets it almost backwards. Although Trump advanced many important policies, it is the 'rest of him' that contains the virtue that inspires the movement… Trump was born for the current crisis, a life and death struggle against a totalitarian enemy I call woke communism... that control all the cultural and economic powers in America…

[Trump] revealed, not caused, the divide in this country. In war, you must make a stand… Trump is a manly man... traditional manhood, even when flawed, is absolutely essential… Trump plays to win... There are no clean hands in a fistfight…Trump is unreservedly, unquestionably pro-America… Trump is a refreshing break from the guilt and self-loathing that marks our age…

-- ... and that also includes people like Cruz and Levin. --

Cruz is a professional politician. He is a globalist, or at least his wife is.

Levin has given me reason to doubt his honesty and scruples, when he misled his audience about the Rogers v. Bellei case in order to protect Cruz.

Your post embodies why Trump can't get more to his base than 30-35 percent.

Instead of welcoming someone over from the dark side, you belittle and berate them with insults and personal attacks.

Do you want to win, or just remain "pure MAGA" and remain in the minority?

I am with you. One of my tests concerning those who run for political office is do I think he would be the type of guy to pull over and help you if you had a flat tire? Do I think the guy ever did manual labor in his life? Has the guy every picked up a hammer or a screwdriver?

Have you seen the film Moneyball. A great scene near the end where the owner of the Red Sox says to Billy Beane that the establishment hates those who come up with a fresh and/or better way to do things. When he says this, it reminded me of President Trump. They all hated him - the media, the Democrats, and especially the RINOS and even conservatives. He was not playing the game the way it was supposed to be played.

I knew I wanted Trump as President in 1990 after I read “The Art Of The Deal”.

It was confirmed very early in his campaign when being questioned by the MSM. He mentioned “anchor babies”. Reporter-ette chastised him and asked if he wanted to use a different phrase. He thought about five seconds and then said, “No. I think I’ll use “anchor babies.”

I knew that political correctness was going to be exposed with him in office.

What is Trump's vice ....

The first is his poor selection of subordinates/appointments. There's just no way to sugarcoat that.

pissing off RINOs, Democractofascists and other deepstaters? That is not a vice, that is a feature.

There's absolutely no problem with him pissing off other politicians.. But some of us see a problem with a "feature" that pisses off the swing voters we believe are necessary to win national elections.

On that latter point, I think the main difference between "you" and "us" is that you guys believe MAGA voters alone are a majority in the country, and so it doesn't matter if other voters get alienated because you don't need their votes anyway.

Like some others, I don't believe that MAGA voters alone are enough for a majority, and so hate it when we needlessly alienate swing voters that are otherwise winnable.

Great, he posted something someone else wrote...What a genius he must be.

Levin's a silent on election fraud Fox News sock puppet pretending to be a protector of the Constitution.

He was the most vile vicious never-Trumper everyday, all day on his radio show...Until Trump was elected. Then he jumped on the Trump money train until Nov.2020.

Now he's back to being just another Fox News sock puppet.

Total fraud...BTW, that goes for Bongino too.

Trump was the first President to invite the heads of all construction unions to the White House. (not one democrat President ever did that... and Trump did it his first week) Trump’s also the only President in modern history comfortable on a construction site.

Years ago when Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis broke up, people were choosing sides. I didn’t. I loved both of them.

As far as choosing in the case of President Trump and Ron DeSantis, I can’t. I love both of them.

That's a dangerous thing to do here, FRiend...lol. Unless you have hard core MAGA views, you really aren't welcome here. The funny thing is I just said I'd vote for him in 24, if he's on the ticket.

Even at his advanced age, he's got the energy, stamina, and cognitive ability to do the job well. However, at that age, things can turn pretty quickly.

My "trump card", so to speak is I care little what is said about me. That attitude came to me in my 20s, as a young Army officer. I had no intentions of making it a career, so being threatened with a lousy OER meant little to me.

My career objective was to command a battery, and achieved that at Fort Bliss from 83-84. That was my last assignment before leaving active duty.

I thought I did a pretty good job, as did the 5 bird colonels who were in my (HQs) battery. They ran 5 directorates at Fort Bliss, along with the CG's staff. When they found out I was resigning my commission, they did some investigation, and didn't like what they saw about the Battalion Commander.

It was Old Army stuff. I was single, ergo, I didn't have a wife to go shopping with the LTC's wife, or be part of her "posse". The end result was my boss was not recommended for Army War College, which meant his aspirations for being a general were dashed.

When people do not lead as The Democrats and Democrat, Fake POTUS, Joe Biden have done since Biden was illegaly elected...countries end up going down the failure tube. As a capable long time student & lover of history...when a country or society is not led, managed, protected 100% of it’s existance...it goes down quickly. Such is the path of these United States of America under the failed leadership of crooked criminal Joe Biden and the entire Democrat Party.

One must look long and hard for a Democrat, that is an effective executive, leader, mover of women & men!!! Biden is both criminal and buffoon at the same time.

IMHO....we the American people will shortly be speaking Russian, Chinese or Farsi. The great state of Israel and it’s citizens will be soon be removal fodder of the nutcase, Iranians...period!!! Biden has betrayed the America people andthe American Nation Republic.

Now...when this happens, & it will happen...I do not want to hear one American cry out “Woe is me, my family and our future. You tolerated the “ZERO” Biden & the Democrat party political low lifes....and did this to your selves.

I’m over the hill in age...had a great life in the USA and can pass on, so I will not suffer...but a bit!!! But,...when you Americans cry out and say how could this happen...I say study history and take a good look in the nearest mirror!!! you will be looking at the people that killed the once great American nation. America will soon join Rome, Eygpt, Germany and many others that failed because of leadership weaknesses!!! “AMEN”!!!

All I can can add is....”GO TRUMP” Save the American Nation!!!
