European Union policymakers have started to prepare the public for siege conditions this winter if gas supplies from Russia are completely cut, an effort to demonstrate diplomatic resolve as well as avoid panic later in the year.

In recent weeks, officials from Germany and other EU member states have begun to talk openly and urgently about the need for immediate reductions in consumption in advance of the peak winter heating season.

They have also started to plan publicly for compulsory allocation, including rationing and prioritization among industrial users, as well as sharing among member states in the event there is not enough gas to supply everyone.

Thanks but I don’t need prayers to cut back energy use.

We are exporting 11 Billion cubic feet of Natural Gas a day. In October the Texas port will come back online and we will be exporting 17 BCF per day.

That is why Natural Gas futures are over 9 dollars and your winter heating bill will be 3 Time more this season.

Tell the wife and kids, this year “you are getting HEAT for Christmas.”

Was there not a story here on FR a few years ago tha stated Israel had discovered a vast “deposit” of natural gas just off their shores? If so, is Israel keeping their cards close to their vest? Or are the European contries hesitant to enter trade with Israel for such a resource?

...during WW III I doubt that many LNG tankers would make it across the ocean. An LNG tanker is basically a floating bomb waiting for just one spark and in the age of missiles they don't stand a chance.

Yeah, I'm kind of wondering if these tankers might go up just as they're approaching their mooring point at the LNG Port Facility, rather than on the high seas.

That would be a much bigger oops.

“They have also started to plan publicly for compulsory allocation, including rationing and prioritization among industrial users, as well as SHARING AMONG MEMBER STATES in the event there is not enough gas to supply everyone.”

This one cracks me up.

Here’s the problem with sharing, as I read this week: Methane (natural gas) is odorless, which is why it’s so dangerous in coal mines and other underground environments. France, like the US, adds an odorizer to make it ‘smell like gas’. Works fine for heating and electricity production.

The problem for Germany is that their entire industrial base that uses pure methane as feedstock, meaning without odorizer. So someone will have to come up with a way to remove the odorizers from the French (and likely most of the other EU states) if any of that gas is intended for German industries.

Another shot in the foot by the West in their quest to ‘punish’ Putin.

These people are real rocket doctors. What did they think was going to happen when they sanctioned Russia? Or was that the plan? Then Biden kiaboshes the Israel/ Turkey pipeline and the EU doesn’t raise a stink? Seems like a plan to starve the proles to me.

“During their earnings call yesterday, ExxonMobil confirmed that the Groningen gas field in The Netherlands has plenty of capacity that can be tapped immediately. All that’s needed is the political will to crank up production.”

I suspect there’s a bit more to it (such as downstream restrictions), just due to Germany first attempting to restart their coal plants.
