The one point that can get people off the global warming obsession train: If people knew this little fact about CO2, there would be far less global warming panic

The dose makes the poison. ... All things are poison and nothing is without poison; the dosage alone is the thing that makes it not a poison.

—Paracelsus, 1493–1541, credited with being the father of toxicology

Climate alarmists play the "hide the magnitude" game. If they didn't, they would soon be out of business.

Politely ask a few of your friends how much of the air they're breathing is CO2. I've done that, and the typical answer, when I can get one, is 20% or more. (Most people have no idea and would rather not guess.)

Climate alarmists rarely talk about the actual quantitative composition of our atmosphere. The impression they give is that

(1) a substantial part of the air that surrounds us comprises carbon dioxide;

(2) that the proportion of carbon dioxide is increasing rapidly;

(3) that the increase is primarily the result of human activity, mostly from burning fossil fuels; and

(4) that if CO2 continues to increase, it's game over for humanity. Recently, the rhetoric has escalated from "climate crisis" to "climate emergency."

The actual magnitude tells a very different story. Carbon dioxide constitutes four one-hundredths of one percent of the air we breathe (or 400 parts per million). That is an extremely tiny fraction of the atmosphere.

What constitutes the rest of the air around us? Seventy-eight percent of the air we breathe is nitrogen, 21 percent is oxygen, 0.9 percent is argon, and 0.1 percent is other gases. The other gases include methane (0.00017 percent); nitrous oxide (0.00003 percent); and water vapor, which varies from 0 to 4 percent.

How can such a small magnitude of CO2 be dooming humanity? Furthermore, how can climate change alarmists be absolutely, positively certain that if CO2 continues to increase, it will be lights out for life on Earth?

Before humans started burning fossil fuels about 200 years ago, CO2 made up 250 parts per million of our atmosphere. It has been growing at about one part per million per year for the past 150 years.

In other words, a very small magnitude is growing at a very slow rate. Is there any reason that rate will accelerate when it hasn't in a century and a half?>BR>

If the tiny magnitude were more generally known, people would want explanations. It defies common sense that such a small magnitude could be responsible for certain catastrophic changes. The least we ought to be is skeptical.

OMG!!!!! The glaciers are gone from Yosemite and Chicago and NYC now too................(in an SUVless world no less!) So their point is what again? The arrogance of man is gonna be painful to a lot of folks. Muvver erf does NOT care about us despite their wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Not only is CO2 a product of life on earth, it is also necessary for life on earth.

The only reason to attack CO2 is to attack life as well as to attack human civilization.

These people are green only when they want to preserve botanical life at the expense of human life (and tbh I’m not opposed to preserving rain forests and I love nature), but suddenly plants be damned the very second we do something that helps them but also helps people (CO2 production)

Look at the world population growth in the last 150 years. A lot more people are exhaling CO2 than there was. Perhaps this alone is the cause of that 1 part per million growth per year.

How are the climate Nazis planning on fixing that? Oh yeah, the reset to 500k people on the planet. I think 7B people might have something different to say about that.

Here’s the AGW kill shot:

CO2 only absorbs a band of IR frequencies (like a color, just not in our visible spectrum). That absorbed energy heats the atmosphere. There is only so much light at that frequency, and it is almost fully absorbed with cO2 ppm under 400.

IOW; more CO2 Wont do squat

CO2 is a vital trace gas that is necessary for all plant life on the planet. We’d all be better off with a bit more of it.

Carbon dioxide constitutes four one-hundredths of one percent of the air we breathe (or 400 parts per million). That is an extremely tiny fraction of the atmosphere.

He failed to mention that man only contributes 5% of that......That's such an insignificant number that it doesn't even warrant mentioning.

How the climate alarmists were able to convince so many people that CO2 is rising and destroying this planet, I will never know but it is a marvel of successful propaganda.

"The only reason to attack CO2 is to attack life as well as to attack human civilization."

I don't think of this as an objective of green & other leftist policy, but for me. this sums up the unintended consequence quite well
When you boil it down, isn't communism just an attack on civilization by the ruling class?

Co2 from mankind comprises just 0.00136% of the atmosphere (some say even less, much less)

0.00136% of the atmosphere,is nowhere near enough to blanket the globe in a thick enough blanket to keep heat from escaping. What little, heat does get trapped, is nowhere near enough to cause “catastrophic global warming”- nowhere near enough. Not even in the ballpark.

To picture how, little and in effectual it is, consider that 0.00136% of the atmosphere would be akin to covering one’s body with a piece of cloth that only covers 0.00136% of the body and thenmthe person going out into the freezing cold and then claiming that this will lead to “catastrophic warming” of the person.

Even on extreme hot days, having justn0.00136% of one’s body covered is not going to exponentially increase the heat of the person to the point that they cease to live”

To visualize how little 0.00136% is, (someone figured it out for me) it woild be like dumping 4 five gallon pails of 100,degree water into an Olympic sized pool of water that is 90 degree , and claiming that it will “overwhelm the pools temperature”

What happens? Near instant equilibrium in temperature because there is nowhere near enough 100 degree pail water to overwhelm the 90 degree pool water. Here is so little that it would be absurd to,suggest that the 4 five gallon pails is causing “castrophic heating” within the pool

“CO2 is a vital trace gas that is necessary for all plant life on the planet. We’d all be better off with a bit more of it.”
I remember in my high school biology class having a lesson on CO2. They called it the “miracle molecule” back in the day. Without it, Earth would be a dead rock orbiting the sun.

More CO2 means happy trees.

People in the city don’t know this.

And my memory is that somewhere in the low 200s/ppm is the minimum limiting factor for plant life. Drop below that and there isn’t enough to sustain growth. The more CO2 there is, the more lush the vegetation ecosystem gets. Plant life will increase to take advantage of the increased CO2, and there is (apparently) no upper limit to what plant life can use.

Back in the early days of the planet, there was almost no oxygen, and CO2 made up a double-digit percentage of our atmosphere, and once plant life gained a foothold on land and gained access to all that CO2, it spread like wildfire, growing into hundred-foot-tall ferns and the like.

The left did this to themselves when they chose to move away from pollution after the fact that most pollution came from Democrat run cities.

An interesting thing I learned recently was Dinosaurs likely could not walk on land and flying dinosaurs definitely could not fly today because the atmospheric pressure was 5X higher due to all the CO2.

Dinosaurs were buoyant in thicker air.

The amount of CO2 in the air now, compared to then, is “nothing”.

I think the author has "missed the boat" so to speak. If you think in terms of "facts" and "reality" with 'global warming' you're completely off base. For example...I bet EVERY SINGLE ONE of the Germans who are going to bathe in cold water this winter (If they bathe), and EVERY SINGLE ONE of those Dutch farmers that are going under buy 100% into the global warming lie! The thing is no one told them at the time that they would have to live in destitute poverty to "prevent global warming"! LOL!

The second they figured out the real price for a ticket on the global warming bandwagon would cost them their living they changed their tune dramatically. The intelligent people knew it all along! CO2 really never had anything to do with it!
