After telling an adult female prosecutor that courts didn’t let “girls” litigate in the “old days,” a federal judge tried to ban her from his courtroom for life. An appellate court unanimously reversed that prohibition, and one Donald Trump appointee called him out for behavior “beneath the dignity of a federal judge.”
U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes, an 80-year-old Ronald Reagan-appointee to the Southern District of Texas, imposed the sanction on a Assistant U.S. Attorney after the lawyer made errors that resulted in the dismissal of an indictment. The 5th Circuit ultimately reversed Hughes’ ruling. Hughes rebuked the prosecutor: “You’re supposed to know what you’re doing,” and followed up that line with, “It was lot simpler when you guys wore dark suits, white shirts and navy ties… We didn’t let girls do it in the old days.”

A Judge like this should be raise high above us commoners in a Public Park, on Saturday.
Although I wonder how many incompetent women and POC’s are in US Attorney’s offices or other important public attorney roles. Cases in point: Kamala Harris, Lori Lightfoot.
Impeachment is the correct remedy for this.
This is the exact scenario the Founders intended for the ise of impeachment.
The language ans sentiment the judge employed was archaic and wrong, but look again at what he was trying to do. The prosecutor in question screwed up big time and I sure as heck wouldn’t want her operating in my courtroom.
More mental evaluations, also. Do the same as a cop ask you to do.
Walk this way, toe in front...say alphabet starting from G, and video tape all.
“A Judge like this should be raise high above us commoners in a Public Park, on Saturday.”
For telling the truth in his courtroom, how utterly old fashioned he is.
Just take a look at the current crop of future attorneys and judges being turned out at Columbia Law school and Yale.
“adult female prosecutor”
Aren’t all prosecutors adults?
Why does that prosecutor still have a job?
My guess is for the same reason she got the job.
“You’re supposed to know what you’re doing.”
Right on. Yes.
“It was lot simpler when you guys wore dark suits, white shirts and navy ties.”
Ummm, sure.
“We didn’t let girls do it in the old days.”
Ugh.
Tell that to Creepy Joe, who is supposedly running the entire country and keeps shaking hands with thin air.
“Triggered!!!”
Lights flashing, whistles blowing.
I’ve had personal experience with Judge Lynn Hughes. Corrupt as hell and will F%(k over pro se litigants in dismissing cases, even if there is no jurisdiction in Federal Courts.
He is a complete asshole, and everyone knows it. Big Business and Big law firms love him because he always rules in their favor.
Judge Lynn Hughes is widely despised in the legal community and had been reprimanded on numerous occasions by the 5th Circuit. Total asshole.
Based on personal experience, the question should be why does the Judge still have job.
Judge Hughes doesn’t know what the hell he is doing, or knows it and refuses to follow the law.
Personally I think the judge should be commended.
She’s not incompetent; the 5th Circuit reversed Judge Hughes’ dismissal of the indictment. Hughes is corrupt.
