France to order air-conditioned shops to keep doors shut

Paris (AFP) – Air-conditioned shops in France will be ordered to keep their doors closed or risk being fined, a minister said Sunday announcing an upcoming rule to combat energy wastage.

Leaving the doors open when the air conditioning is on leads to "20 percent more consumption and... it's absurd," French Minister of Ecological Transition Agnes Pannier-Runacher told RMC radio.

The minister said there were also plans to restrict the use of illuminated signs.

"In the coming days, I will issue two decrees: the first will widen the ban on illuminated advertising, whatever the size of the city, between 1 am and 6 am", with the exception of airports and stations, Pannier-Runacher told the Journal du Dimanche newspaper.

"The second will ban shops from having their doors open while the air conditioning and heating are working".

In the 1960s, northern US cities often had elm trees providing a green canopy over the streets and houses.

I haven’t replaced my AC yet. I run a big fan in my bedroom window (cool air in) and the stove exhaust fan at night (warmer air out).

In my youth, city department stores and office buildings in upstate New York had revolving entrance doors to cut down on heat loss.

In the 19th Century, the northern US urban rich often closed up their mansions for the summer and escaped to Cape May, Saratoga, Newport, etc.

FDR used to go to a place in Maine by the Canadian border.

I find many stores now have doors that automatically open when anyone is within several feet -—— and just the one set so hot or cool is constantly being lost.

This requirement has been part of the common model codes used in many US jurisdictions for quite some time.

Seems a clickbait headline to me.

I’ve got an idea. Why don’t we ban the government from stealing tax money to support the UN Envirowacko Agenda and send everyone a donation form that they can mail in with a check for their donation to the loonies. Just a thought.

I told her “hey, I’m trying to cool the outside all I can”.

Look on her face was priceless.

😂🤣

It’s so easy (and fun) to mess with leftists because they don’t think or reason. They’re just programmed. You get ‘em past the point of their programming and they don’t know what to do.

What backwards thinking!
If everybody around the world ran their A/C with the doors open, there would be no global warming.

Have you ever been to Biltmore? That place has some amazing design features involving air flow patterns through the house, mostly for summer cooling.

My sons and wife heard this for about 2 decades from me:

“Close the door! I’m not paying to cool [or heat] the whole neighborhood!”

“Do you own PG&E stock?!”

Dad: “Close the door! I’m not paying to cool [or heat] the whole neighborhood!”

Did anybody else hear that growing up?

Down South it was "you weren't raised in a barn", or "were you raised in a barn?"

Asking your own kids if they were raised in a barn is odd when the parent asking that was the one that was doing the raising.

When mom asked that, I'd respond, "Yeah, ya big cow!"

Nope....No air conditioning in the 50s or 60s.

Yeah but I heard it in the 60's about the fridge.

"CLOSE THE FRIDGE DOOR, you trying to cool down the whole house???"
