Jordan Peterson is an enigmatic person. Ever since he suddenly appeared on the world stage as a teacher of responsibility, self-discipline, and political incorrectness, he has been controversial.
His tough-love rules for life won him the admiration of many young men who felt empowered by his message. The Left was enraged by his refusal to use assumed pronouns during his university classes. His caustic way of dealing with liberals and “wokism” made him an instant success among conservatives and gained him a large YouTube following all over the United States and Canada.

Another so-called “conservative” bites the dust. What happened to the alpha man truth teller? Jordan Peterson caves on same-sex “marriage”.

People’s mistake was in assuming the Canadian psychology professor was a conservative to begin with.
Anti-woke != conservative.

Trying to come across as “nuanced.” Intellectuals often do this, because they want to dazzle, and that’s hard to do if you light on one position or the other.

Peterson didn’t cave. Anyone who followed him for any length of time knows he holds a number of socially and economically leftist positions. He may come to see the light as he has on a number of issues but he definitely started left.

No, he didn’t cave at all.
Mind, I do not consider homo partnerships to be marriage. But, JP has a history of treating issues as they are, not as how someone might want them to be — to lean that way is to embrace victimhood.
He does not endorse homo ....... relationships. But, he does say that they are now part of the landscape and need to be treated with, whether or not you like them.
Look at Rubin, he is not a flaming whatever or stuck up about it. OTOHand, look at Pete Buttgig — he ( and the muppet acting as WH PR) are all about: “Look at me, look at me! I’m special and YOU must kneel before me in awe.”
JP would never, ever go for such grandstanding.
And, he is trying to emphasize that like with American blacks, they are not automatically liberals like the DNC would have you believe. If they (both groups) are just trying to get by, they are potential allies against the commie trash now in charge.

I don’t know if this guy was ever all that conservative but when I see a “hot new talking head” on the internet I just assume they grifters until proven otherwise. Standing for real marriage isn’t conservative or liberal , it just being a rational human.

Dr. Peterson NEVER held himself out as a conservative. He says what's on his mind and takes his allies where he gets them. He was NEVER a small government guy as far as social programs is concerned.
He is more conservative than he was a few years ago when I started listening to him. The doctor is is a work in progress, who is extremely intelligent, and thinks out loud. He was and is, always willing to give alternate opinions an honest hearing.
He is also a syncretist and a Jungian, but not as much of a syncretist as he was. He is mostly fine with the Canadian health system, and is only now starting to realize the dangers of a government monopoly on same.
Don't abandon him. He will be a great ally in certain causes, and is improving all the time across the board despite these issues. An academic with a lifetime in evolutionary biology calling out the truth on a regular basis is like a talking dog, you don't expect the King's English. What he gets right though, he gets really right and helps other people along.

Time is on the side side of gay marriage. It’s left the station.
Trump will not get reinstated.
It’s best we concentrate on the social issues we can win with. Did anybody care about BJ’s bj’s in the Oval Office?

We made similar points, but you were more succinct. Good post.

I was told that about pro-life 45 years ago. That fight won't be over in my lifetime, but progress has been made. Obergfell was 5-4. A mess has been made in the meantime, but if government has NO conception of what marriage is (I still haven't had a good reply to the question of when consummation is), then it might be better to regard it as illegitimate across the board and have marriage be only a religious matter.
If that means that Muslims have up to four wives, crazy rock stars two or three, and Mormons whatever their head allows, so be it. Better than the lie. It can become like women's athletics. Eventually it will be ALL men.

“The second problem with Dr. Peterson’s podcast is his attempt to brand same-sex “marriage” as somehow conservative. He does this by suggesting that the highly sexualized homosexual lifestyle can be domesticated by this “marriage” and that this new creation can be a conservative force in defense of the family.”

States have to recognize marriages that happen in other states. That’s why we made Utah get rid of polygamy before they became a state.
