Rep. Zeldin took to Twitter to say be believed his suspected attacker would be 'instantly released under NY's laws'
A man who allegedly attacked Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., with a sharp object at a campaign stop in Perinton, New York, Thursday evening was charged with a felony and released from custody within hours of his arrest, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said.
The suspect, identified as David G. Jakubonis, 43 of Fairport, N.Y., was charged with attempted assault in the second degree.
He was arraigned in Perinton Town Court and released on his own recognizance, the sheriff’s department said.
Zeldin, who is the Republican candidate for governor in New York, predicted the alleged attacker would be released.

Somehow I think it would work out differently if the recipient of the assassination attempt was a Democrat.
We need to determine who the Soros-Aligned District Attorney is, that allowed this.
This is straight out of late-1930's Nazi Germany Brownshirt treatment. Brownshirts would either not be arrested at all, would be arrested and the charges dropped immediately, or would be arrested and released without bail.
If he had looked crossways at a Rat he could have been facing years in some hole without trial as they sought to come up with charges.
how big is his gofundme account?
has kommie donated yet?
Hire private, armed guards with cameras at 'voter drop boxes.'
Hire private guards or RETIRED law enforcement/military to round up cheaters and bad actors in strategic counties/cities on election day. Record their misdeeds, round them up, and then have the public decide what they did or did not see with their own eyes.
If this guy jumped on stage and waved a Trump flag at a Hochul rally he’d be in jail, held without bail.
Hell, if he even had been in the area, and been a Trump supporter, he’d have been rounded up and sent to the DC Gulag.

Oh, I know.
The Legislature needs to get their butts in gear and straighten out this bail law. It came into being ONLY for the benefit of certain demographics.
Attempted assault in the second degree?
He should be charged with attempted murder in the first degree. The plea agreement could then be attempted assault in the first degree...10 years before eligible for parole.
If he could get next to Rep. Zeldin with a knife, he could have gotten close with a gun.
He is a USCongressman from NY. Making an attack on him should have been a federal and state crime. The feds should have taken him into custody.
I realize that if the tables were turned and this was a conservative disrupting a Dem rally they would have been dealt with much more harshly, but I think it a bit much to be calling this “an attempted assassination”. This guy just seemed like your typical leftist nutjob going off the rails and making a scene, I’ve yet to see any evidence that he intended to kill the candidate. All they have on him is that he was in possession of an improvised weapon, but no indication that he intended to use it.
Make this a running ad.
You make a very good point. Zeldin should publicly demand that.
BTW, the attack would make a great Zeldin ad, especially since Hochul encouraged her side to disrupt Zeldin.
That’s been your tagline for many years. It was evident long ago you were correct.
Also need to track busses that ever show up at a polling place including pictures of those getting on and off, comparing them to busses arriving at other polling places.
That was attempted murder.
Just doing what Hochul wanted.
All they have on him is that he was in possession of an improvised weapon, but no indication that he intended to use it.
