GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Federal regulators Wednesday canceled a policy adopted under former President Donald Trump that weakened their authority to identify lands and waters where declining animals and plants could receive government protection.
The move was the latest by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service undoing changes to the Endangered Species Act that industry and landowner groups had won under Trump. President Joe Biden ordered a broad review of his predecessor’s environmental policies after taking office in 2021.
One Trump measure required regulators not to designate areas as critical habitat if there would be greater economic benefit from developing them.
That forced the agency to disprove “speculative claims of economic harm made by industries such as mining, logging, and oil and gas” as they sought to extract resources from public lands, said Earthjustice, a law firm that represents environmental groups.
“The Service is the federal government’s lead agency on endangered species, responsible for conserving the nature of America for future generations,” agency Director Martha Williams said.
Returning to the pre-Trump policy, she said, would make “sound science and citizen participation” the basis of habitat decisions.

It’s like they have a list of what Trump did and they’re going down the list reversing it.
Gonna go after a lot of businesses this way.
Anti-business practices by unhinged extremists.
Won’t this run foul of the latest SC ruling on Agencies making laws that need to be spelled out and approved in the legislative bill?
Anything to hurt business.
Dang-it!
I was SO looking forward to my Sunday morning bald eagle egg omelette too!
Drat it all!

Want to get rid of the endangered species scam ?
Audit the surveys that were used to designate their status.
Pay particular attention to the acreage numbers.
Have the suitable habitat acre numbers been switched with total acres number thus taking a 100 % habitat saturation and turning it into an endangered habitat ?
I saw this bait and switch for the spotted owl at the BLM Clackamas resource area spotted owl survey that I personally participated in.
The wildlife biologist I questioned on this admitted to the switch fraud. “ Its for the greater good “.
was his justification.
I alerted my superiors.
Every one turned a blind eye, and the next year I was not brought back for another NTE 180 .
It was the end of my Silviculture endeavor.
Spit.

“...citizen participation”
“It’s like they have a list of what Trump did and they’re going down the list reversing it”.
That’s exactly what they’re doing.
We can always count of Biden to get it wrong.
There! Fixed it.
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Noting that I am not familiar with the land that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) polices, while FWS is arguably a good idea imo, it remains that the states have never expressly constitutionally given the big, bad, post-17th Amendment ratification feds the specific power to protect fish and wildlife on INTRAstate lands.
"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]." —United States v. Butler, 1936.
Consider that after the states finally wake up and put a permanent stop to unconstitutional federal taxes by repealing the 16th and 17th Amendments, they will undoubtedly find new revenues (imo) to protect fish and wildlife on intrastate land.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
But if the states somehow cannot make their fish and wildlife protection programs work, then the states can appropriately amend the Constitution to let feds use their "magic wand" to police fish and wildlife so that desperate, alleged election-stealing Democrats will have have a new constitutionally enumerated excuse for unaccountable federal domestic spending.
"Article 1, Section 9, Clause 7: No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time."
Corrections, insights welcome.
And speaking of alleged election-stealing Democrats, patriots are once again reminded that they must vote twice this election year. Your first vote is to primary career RINO incumbents. Your second vote is to replace outgoing Democrats and RINOs with Trump-endorsed patriot candidates.
Again, insights welcome.
