President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that U.S. military officials believe it’s “not a good idea” for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to visit Taiwan at the moment.
Biden’s comments in an exchange with reporters came a day after the Chinese Foreign Ministry said it would take “resolute and strong measures” should Pelosi proceed with reported plans to visit Taiwan in the coming weeks.
“Well, I think that the military thinks it’s not a good idea right now,” Biden said in response to a question about Pelosi’s reported trip. “But I don’t know what the status of it is.”
The president stopped short of suggesting that Pelosi not travel to Taiwan.
Pelosi was originally scheduled to visit in April but had to postpone after she tested positive for COVID-19. She would be the highest-ranking American lawmaker to visit the close U.S. ally since Newt Gingrich, a Republican, traveled there 25 years ago when he was House speaker.

On Tuesday, China’s Foreign Ministry lashed out at the potential visit, saying it would “have a severe negative impact on the political foundation of China-US relations, and send a gravely wrong signal to ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces.”
“If the US insists on going down the wrong path, China will definitely take resolute and forceful measures to firmly defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told a news conference. “The United States must be fully responsible for all the consequences caused by this.”
Biden is CIC. Why isn’t he involved in the decision about the trip? He sounds like a bystander. Are we ready to deal with the possible consequences should the CCP act? Sounds like the Biden administration is a hot mess.

Difference is the US under Biden is perceived as a paper tiger. The Afghanistan debacle along with our ridiculous, resource-draining involvement in Ukraine invite CCP action. And the US military objection reinforces the perception of weakness. Biden is senile. He should have never mentioned publicly the division within his administration.
What type of investments do the Pelosi’s have in Taiwan? Or is it an attempt to convince the CCP to invest in the Pelosi’s liquor bill, the same way they invest in Hunters crack bill.
