Maryland Conservatives Send a Strong Message of Rejection to 'Electable' Candidates Pimped by the Establishment

Tuesday, Maryland held its primary election. My wife and I were in line at 7 a.m. to cast our votes as residents of Maryland’s 6th Congressional district. Most of the votes we cast were symbolic. Maryland is not going to elect a Republican senator. The odds of a Republican being elected governor are slim. Some will point to Larry Hogan and say it can be done. For my money, the Maryland GOP would not have been worse off under an openly Democrat governor than a crypto-Democrat like Hogan. For us, the big votes on the ballot were for sheriff and county commissioners.

That said, I think there was a useful takeaway from yesterday’s voting. That lesson is the GOP and conservative electorate in Maryland have changed. It is more combative and less interested in the go-along-get-along happy-loser philosophy that has characterized it for the nearly two decades I’ve lived here.

Spot on, “electability,” in this current culture and political climate is nothing more than picking a Manchurian candidate leading you into the struggle, resulting in a humiliating surrender on your knees.

I prefer to stand and fight with some integrity intact.

I voted for Cox and Peroutka. This has me fired up!

I kept getting anti-Cox cards in the mail. They trashed Cox but didn’t suggest who else to vote for, which made me suspicious. They just strengthened my resolve to vote for Cox!

I cringe when I recall that once I actually supported the likes of George Bush, John McCain, and even Mitt Romney.

NEVER AGAIN!

Poll watchers and poll watchers again. Make the Democrats work for their cheating. Every Republican and conservative in Maryland needs to step up and volunteer.

The braver ones can volunteer to be poll watchers in Baltimore. That is where the real stealing will occur.

It worked in VA, all because of the huge increase in poll watchers.

Yes. Donald Trump speaks the truth. That's why they hate him and why their hate is so vitriolic.

To speak TRUTH is likely to get anyone killed, witness Socrates.

I agree with your sentiment, but when the choices were John Kerry, and Barack Obama I can’t really feel too bad about my votes for Bush, McCain, and even Romney. Now, I do regret my youthful, uneducated, vote for McGovern. If one is young and not liberal he has no heart! OK, that is BS..I was just politically STUPID!

Yes. People have been saying that about RINOs here on Free Republic for years. For years, I didn't exactly believe them. I do now. It's true.

Yes, Haley and Pence are in the same dump as Bush, Romney, and the late John McCain.

The Establishment prefers a Democrat-collaborator stance, as it reduces personal attacks on them, and allows them to share in the graft to some degree.

I saw them here on FR in 2016, FR members who said they were part of the local Party committees, saying the Party establishment should select the candidate, not the primary voters.

If only we could temper youth with the wisdom that comes with age!

We try, but alas youth's audacity tends to blind it with mindless optimism.

One advantage in having the party establishment pick candidates is that you avoid the problem of having Democrats vote in GOP primaries.

Same can be done with a closed primary. There is no advantage to the voters having the establishment SELECT” who the voters are allowed to vote for.

All you have done is change where the power players exercise control to ensure we never really have a choice and they just make their selection, leaving us with no election.

I live in a state with a "closed" primary system. Nothing stops a Democrat from changing his party registration to Republican just so he can vote in the GOP primary.
