Del. Dan Cox might have won the GOP nomination in the Maryland governor's race, but come November he will not have the support of the man he hopes to succeed.
Cox, a far-right lawmaker endorsed by former President Donald Trump, prevailed in Tuesday's primary over Kelly Schulz, a fellow Republican and former Maryland Commerce Secretary who had the backing of outgoing Gov. Larry Hogan.
The result marks the end of a contentious campaign that the Associated Press described as a clash over the fate of the Republican Party, pitting two distinctly different factions of the GOP against one another.
But while Cox emerged victorious, capturing 56% of the vote compared to 40% for Schulz with 80% of ballots counted, Hogan's vote is one he cannot count on in the general election.

Only goes one way.
As demonstrated yet again.
So much for party loyalty. Hogan is showing his pettiness. He would rather see a Dem governor for Maryland?! Backstabbing little pr*ck.
That’s what they always do. They’d rather have Democrats elected than conservatives. Remember Karl Rove on Fox News in 2010 when the Tea Party challengers were winning?
Assistant Democrat Larry “Nice Hogans” Hogan shows his Assistant Democratness.
These people aren’t even Republicans. They are stooges who don’t run as Democrats, when that’s what they really are. The Quisling fifth column who eats the party from within.
he says he hears voices from imaginary people egging him to run for prez. Delusional RINO clown..
“… Only goes one way….”
**************************
Yep, as always. Hogan blew the one realistic hope he had for a viable political future. He should have run for Maryland’s US Senate seat that’s in contention this year. The fool thinks he has a chance at the Presidential or Vice-Presidential Republican nomination.
I wonder if CBS has ever called someone like AOC or Omar a “far left lawmaker”.
Hogan’s support would probably hurt Cox more than help.
Which is why I no longer saddle up and ride out to defend some of these guys under the "he is not great but he is ours" banner.
Not when they are stabbing our guys in the back.
Yes. Once again the GOPe says: “Your guy can’t win, and to prove it, we will break his legs.”
Then they come back to us with a “We told ya so” and expect us to buy it. In many ways the GOPe is more insane than the Squad. They claim to only be doing this because of Trump. But it is his movement that they really hate.
And therein lies the insanity. They should be embracing the movement even if they hate the man. Instead, they want to go back to some crazy formula where they think suburbanites alone will win them anything.
Then again, losing is more their speed.
Dan Cox introduced a bill to impeach Hogan. Of course Hogan is not going to endorse him.
Nor would Cox have endorsed Kelly Schulz if Cox had lost.
I think you’re right. I think Hogan could have given Van Hollen a run for his money, especially with his stroke.
But he didn’t.
So will Hogan back far-left Democrat contestant Wes Moore? Probably
Hogan's Heroes
Party loyalty blah blah blah
The fool thinks he has a chance at the Presidential or Vice-Presidential Republican nomination.
Well, his chances are miniscule/fractional.
He’ll line up with the rest of the GOPe “hopefuls” and be summarily dispatched by President Trump in the early stages of the primary season.
Of course, he could form a team with Chris Christie and have a keen campaign slogan - “Fat & Fatter - a side of beef in every pot”.
And also (and more important), will CBS characterize Wes Moore as 'far-left'?
Lockdown Larry has shown his true colors time and again. Showing up on the lib TV talk shows and dissing Trump.
He can go take a long walk off a short pier.
Whoa! He’s worse than I thought!
Yep...party unity and all that jive! It only goes one way with RINOs...
