Russia broadens territorial goals after Ukraine army gets long-range US arms

“Russia’s geographic goals in Ukraine have changed,” said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavorv at a news conference on Wednesday, July 20. “Now [our] geography is different. It is not only the DNR and LNR, it is also the Kherson region, the Zaporizhzhia region and a number of other territories,” he said and explained that this change was due to “weapons that will pose a direct threat to our territory and the territory of those [eastern Ukrainian] republics that have announced their independence.” FM Lavrov added: “If Western countries supply long-range weapons to Ukraine, [these goals] will move even further.” The Russian foreign minister was referring to the US-made HIMARS medium-range rocket systems supplied to Ukraine’s army and the F-15 and F-16 fighter jets that Washington was considering sending over to its air force.

DEBKAfile’s military and Russian sources report that Lavrov omitted another motive spurring Moscow to broaden its military goals in Ukraine. The Kremlin finds itself under hawkish pressure in the social media to go for bigger targets in the Ukraine conflict. More and more voices are calling on Moscow to drop its initial designation of the Ukraine offensive as a “special military operation” and demanding its upscale to “the Ukraine war.”

These calls come with a demand for the Russian army to grab more Ukrainian territory over and above the eastern provinces and aim to occupy the Black Sea town of Odessa and lands right up to the Polish border in the west, and proclaim the establishment of the “Malorussia State” in those regions.

Some voices ae also calling for Moscow to declare the country in a full state of war entailing national mobilization to the armed forces and the roping in of industry to support Russia’s effort to win the Ukraine war.

Russia has constantly been moving the goal posts.

The claims to acquire territory for Russian "security" have no limits.

Damn, what happened to all those “game changers”? I feel like at least once, sometimes more, a week every week for over four months now I’ve seen a story about some new weapon a NATO member nation is sending Ukraine that is a “game changer” and will dramatically shift the battlefield momentum.

You may have noticed that the Russians were pushed back from Kiev and from Kharkov. The eleven-time-zone country was humiliated by the one-time-zone country that fought with spirit. The Ukrainians fighting was the game changer.

Well that’s what nations do when threatened by long range arms.....everyone knows Putins creating a buffer zone that he can control. So this should surprise nobody. He has always responded with more of more when he’s pushed.

Sometimes I think Biden imagines he can do anything he wants in Ukraine....he’s been crawling up Putins leg for a long time so I won’t be surprised if he gets pushed off.

Slowly but surely losing their country while receiving all the weapons and money they want, very impressive.

They called for fighter planes and never got any, as I recall.

They have been complaining of slow delivery of arms.

Doesn't appear they are receiving "all the weapons and money they want".

Sounds like more bluster to try to intimidate the opposition.

Conscription of ordinary ethnic Russians will anger them more than the Western sanctions on consumer goods and having the Russian impersonation of McDonald’s in their cities. Since ordinary Russians don’t want to die for Putin’s quest to recreate the Soviet Union, it could lead to regime change and Putin facing war crimes, if he survives the coup.

Well, I share that lack with the Ukrainians. Of course my wants are far short of the Ukrainians’ demands for close to a trillion dollars in “support”.

Makes sense.

It is very rare to get everything you want.

A “national mobilization” will go over well.

Which nation? Syria?

Propaganda from Both Sides. As an American I should believe only one side is telling the truth. Russia is losing big, Thousands, maybe tens of thousands dead and who armies are surrendering to the Brave Ukraine Soldiers (many Russians changing sides to fight for Freedom against Tyrant Hitler-Putin!) Soon Belarus will join the fight with Ukraine for freedom and heaps of US Dollars. The push against Crimea is now on and The Russian Fleet will be sunk in their harbors or flee to Russia. Its all over in a month. Once Crimea falls and all collaborators killed. Putin will be killed by his own guards and a new Democratic Government (headed by a George Soros appointed Democrat) will withdraw and vow to pay Ukraine 82 Billion in reparations. Oil and Gas, now Ukraine Controlled, will flow into Europe. 2023 will be a great year! Russia will dismantle her nukes and we will be one step closer to a United Earth and world Peace.

“Russia broadens territorial goals after Ukraine army gets long-range US arms”

Expected, as they have to keep their people out of the range of the Neocon guns.

So, now Russia will have to take another 20% or so of Ukraine, for a total of about 50%. Not much left, particularly when Poland moves in from the West demanding their cut...and Hungary from the South.

But then Ukraine, or its people, never meant a damn thing to the Neocons - just Useful Idiots to fight their war against Russia.
