Russia is taking steps toward annexing parts of Ukraine it controls “in direct violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty,” a top U.S. national security official warned on Tuesday, including installing proxy officials expected to call “sham” votes on joining Russia and forcing residents to apply for Russian citizenship.
“Russia is beginning to roll out a version of what you could call an annexation playbook,” the official, John Kirby, said at a White House press briefing, drawing parallels to Russia’s seizure of Crimea eight years ago.
Mr. Kirby said that there was “ample evidence in the intelligence and in the public domain” of Russia’s unfolding efforts, which include installing the ruble as the national currency in the areas it intends to annex, just as it did in Crimea. Areas that may be in Russia’s annexation plan, he said, include Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and the provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk, which make up the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.

We did the same thing.
Who to believe, the feds or Russia… would rather touch a turd or puke?
Finders keepers 🤪
When did we invade Europe? What did we keep?
Kirby is hardly in a position to deliver useful information. Just because he is an older white male who understands use of the English language, doesn’t mean he isn’t just another Biden cipher.
This article in a nutshell: “Our intelligence consists of things that are not only obvious, but that have also been discussed publicly by those concerned.”
I mean...it’s kind of obvious, isn’t it? How is this news to anyone?
There’s an interesting ploy: Annex territory under military occupation before the war is ended, then when the home army returns claim they are committing aggression against the occupiers.
Will ordinary Russians accept conscription to “defend” the occupied lands?
Well we did pull of that Euromaidan coup in Ukraine and installed a US friendly government.
Uh, duh. No shit, kirby. Of course they are.
Vicky Neuland needs to be Gitmo’d.
I see this tossed out there a lot.
I find it as credible as most of the propaganda tossed out
by both sides in this war.
All the ridiculous positions you take just happen to be Moscow’s version of events. The Ukrainians can make some moves without American spooks. Just ask Klitschko. If you want to look at CIA influence, you should look at Hillary’s massive transfer of uranium to Russia. Remember, Obama’s “greater flexibilty” promise to the Russians?
In Mariupol, the Russians immediately went to work with their propaganda teams showing how they were restoring infrastructure. In reality, the Russians prioritized changing street signs to Russian amidst flattened city blocks. And of course, they changed some names back like Kommunarsk Station, Lenin Plaza, and Rosa Luxemburg Avenue.
Everything George S. Patton said about the Russians was true and even understated.
We invaded Mexico in 1846 and annexed the entire northern half of that country at the conclusion of that war.
It was no more Mexico’s than it was ours.
Mexico wasn’t even a nation until 1812 or so. Spain transferred
ownership of that land to the wet behind the ears Mexico
around 1820, and didn’t give a though to the Native
American’s whose land it actually was.
If I recall I think Putin said that already. Like as soon as Brandon took office.
Even so, if that is correct, you compare that to a full
invasion force and tens of thousands of lives lost?
Didn’t you equate us with the Russian actions taking place?
Do you still make that comparison?
Did we annex land? That was the issue wasn’t it?
