Trump announcing 2024 bid before midterms could backfire, invite more competition
Washington Examiner ^ | July 19, 2022 | David Drucker

Donald Trump’s flirtation with announcing a 2024 White House bid before the midterm elections is sending signals of self-doubt and political vulnerability, with Republican operatives saying the former president is motivating challenges to his supremacy over the party.

Trump would begin any presidential primary with overwhelming advantages in popularity, name identification, and resources. But pulling the trigger on a third White House campaign prior to Election Day this November, as Trump concedes is possible, might boomerang. Rather than box out potential 2024 opponents and clear the field, such a move by the former president could reek of fear, inviting more competition for the Republican nomination.

Drucker's bottom line is questionable. I doubt that an early announcement would invite more competition. But, it could backfire in another way. If Trump announces prior to the midterms, headlines and political discussions will center on Trump and potential opponents, at a time when Republicans need maximum attention on the Dems and their miserable policies. If in turn, Republicans don't do as good in the midterms as people expect, Trump will be a focus of blame. For the sake of the conservative movement and winning, I hope he holds off until after the midterms.

He hasn’t announced. So why write an article about it?

Anyone who challenges Trump is an absolute GOP elite deep-state RINO.
I am hoping there will be ZERO challengers

“reek of fear”
The only fear is in democrats’ heads, as they face the probability of defeat.
As for reeking, the only party that reeks is the democrat.

He's not going to run...He's providing some cover for DeSantis and Pompeo.

I'd like to see Pompeo/DeSantis. Pompeo's previous roles give him a lot of foreign policy experience...which we need right now along with some sound economic and MORAL policies.

I think they are purposefully overcomplicating a simple equation.

Were things better for you as an individual during the Trump administration or were the better during the Biden administration?

And for rational, thinking people, its an obvious answer.

When they start getting into Trump’s moves reeking of fear- I don’t see where that even comes into the picture.

In my entire lifetime, our economy and future have never been so dismal. Even during the 2008 downturn\depression I never found it necessary to replace my perfectly fine furnace and AC system in my house to avoid a 5000-6000 dollar heating bill.

My hope is to get Trump for one more term, and then DeSantis for two.

This is an example of manufactured news story. Get someone to say something when nothing has happened and make a story out of it.

Personally, I welcome competition. It’s clarifying knowing who your enemies are. Whether or not Trump declares before the November elections makes no difference. Trump, MAGA candidates and us will be attacked by the left. Other “reasonable” Republicans will receive the same treatment as John McCain. They start out being reasonable to the media only to be vilified when the the general election approaches.

I wish he wouldn’t.

The mid-terms don’t need to be about Trump. They need to be about joe biden and the extremist left clowns.

President Trump is savvy and could have seven rallys a week, packing in hundreds of thousands, and wait 'til the last minute to get on the ballot.

I'm looking for each states' requirements but can't find a date.

You folks are smarter than that. It’s all kabuki. Trump is playing along. He knows the left. Hopefully our friends at Fox won’t play.
