ALBANY, N.Y. (WROC) — New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed new legislation Friday, banning smoking on all state-owned beaches and most public parks.

According to the governor’s office, smoking in these designated areas will be punishable with a civil fine of $50. The legislation goes into effect 90 days from the July 15 signing.

“Smoking is a dangerous habit that affects not only the smoker but everyone around them, including families and children enjoying our state’s great public places,” Hochul said. “I’m proud to sign this legislation that will protect New Yorker’s health and help reduce litter in public parks and beaches across the state.”

Certain areas such as parking lots, and sidewalks adjoining parks along are exempt from the ruling. Officials say Adirondacks and Catskills are also exempt from the ban.

The legislation states that smoking will be prohibited in the following state-owner properties:

beaches boardwalks marinas boardwalks playgrounds recreation centers group camps Fines will be collected by localities, according to the new legislation.

From a different article:

Further, the smoking ban applies to all combustible cannabis and tobacco products, such as cigarettes, pipes and cigars, according to the governor's office. Non-combustible products, such as vaping devices and e-cigarettes, are exempted from the ban, but current state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation regulations already prohibit vaping at almost all of the locations covered by the new law.

Liberals love to take away people’s rights. And yet, millions of them will still vote for their RAT massahs to continue receiving free stuff.

Too much money to be made in pot to outlaw it’s use, not to mention the votes it gets them. And they’ll say it would be like denying people their meds.

And there won’t be any judge-shopping to find one who’ll rule against the new law, either. Because there aren’t any.

She’s starting to enjoy being the Chief Wet Blanket.
People will always have what could be called certain vices.
Some ‘vices’ are more destructive than others.
Some ‘vices’ are employed as a method of momentary peace and relief from the pressures of the day.
Mike Bloomberg would have happily done something like this during his ‘Nanny-Bloomberg’ tenure.

Pffft.....I know smokers that would GLADLY pay a paltry $50 fine to be able to smoke where they want. Lol.

And by the way....good luck enforcing it....just another stupid burden on already overworked LEOs.

They can’t let the parks and playgrounds continue to be a haze of marijuana, with children in particular being subjected to it.

The smoke in parks and beaches mostly blows away.

In Santa Monica they did the same thing however in a park near where I lived, they allowed open bbq grilling and had exhaust spewing lawn mowers do the park. The park is next to a bus stop and large street as well. Danger! Smoke molecules.

I was thinking the same thing.

I hardly ever smell tobacco smoke, yet the smoke from the weed pigs is everywhere.

I see at a couple of links that the ban includes weed.

I smoke cigars—and learned a trick on how to smoke them in almost any location.

I walk up to the security guard (or whoever is supposed to enforce the no smoking rules in that location) and ask them where they smoke.

Very often they will walk me to the nearest well hidden Karen free zone and light up with me!
