Nearly 400 cops at Uvalde mass shooting ‘failed to prioritize saving lives over own safety,’ panel reveals

Nearly 400 law-enforcement officers responded to the scene of the Uvalde school massacre, but their “overall lackadaisical approach” meant the gunman wasn’t confronted for more than an hour — helping him slaughter 19 fourth-graders and two teachers, a scathing new probe says.

Responding to the May 24 mass-shooting scene in the Texas town were 376 law-enforcement personnel: 149 Border Patrol officers; 91 members of the state Department of Public Safety; 14 from the Department of Homeland Security; 25 from the Uvalde Police Department; 16 from the San Antonio Police Department and another 16 from the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office, according to a report from a Texas House investigative panel released Sunday.

Yet the army of law enforcement was part of the “systemic failures and egregious poor decision making” contributing to the tragic debacle, probers said.

I swear, honest to God, Barney Fife with his one bullet would have been a hero on that day.

The 300 or so local cops were well stocked with body armor, Glocks, AR-15s, riot helmets, donuts, coffee, extra body fat, donuts, mountain dew, more donuts. But none had the gumption or courage or zeal of Barney Fife. The local cops that day were a lazy bunch of overweight cowardly porkers.

399 cowards that will never be able to justify their actions no matter how hard their family and friends shower them with excuses.

All that tactical gear, may as well have been wearing miniskirts and matching blouses.

The most important thing to do when kids are getting slaughtered is to remain hydrated. Fortunately, thanks to excellent planning on the police department's part, they had plenty of water bottles on that fateful day.

Also, the most important thing for any police officer is that they go home safely each night.

You forgot hand sanitizer.

I know law enforcement is big on chain of command. If one or more of those officers, got fed up and disobeyed, and went in, would they have been fired or suspended?

I have a hard time believing some of those men didn't want to act?

Add hand sanitizer to the list of important supplies.

The initial police response was very, very fast.

The lead cop got a grazed scalp as his reward.

After they retreated back, Only then did the response stagnate.

It seems like the only focus of that group was to keep the parents (and a husband) from trying to rescue their kids and wives. In that, they were very successful.
In saving lives, not so much.
Ullade is poster advertisement for the need of all Americans to be armed. The police are not going to save you in your greatest time of need. If anything, they are going to be an armed impediment.

Shameful actions and inaction by law enforcement plus a wacked out nutjob shooter, but in the end who is to blame and who will suffer?
The parents at home miles away from the shootings, getting their kids ready for bed after supper and helping them with their homework——and now having to surrender the 2nd Amendment protected firearms.

Hysterical Dems push it every crisis.

The videos clearly show that the exterior door was propped open.

This was done by a teacher who brazenly violated known safety procedures.

This open door provided the murderer easy access to the children in the school.

This teacher needs a good ass kicking to serve as an example.

19 children died because of this teacher.

It’s time for justice for the 19 children.

When this story first broke there were many Freepers that defended the Uvalde response by the LEOs. Now however they have the decency to keep their mouths shut as raking evidence comes out. I would like to think that their silence came about due to an honest sense of shame but it is most likely due to getting raked over the coals on this forum.

I think tomorrow might take an hour and dig up the comments of the LEO bootlicking a-holes who defended these cowardly pricks and asking for their new opinions.

So you are trying to say that the cops were cowardly, useless tools, right?

I would think one brave man would suffice!

I have noticed that cops kind of gather together when there is something happening. In what I would consider over abundant force.
I am not sure if this is also related to Fergusson effect?

Almost 400 law enforcement personnel and not a spine to be found among them. I just can’t imagine standing for an hour and listening to those children, but not doing anything at all except wait for orders from commanders “above”. How do these people sleep at night?

“Despite an obvious atmosphere of chaos, the ranking officers of other responding agencies did not approach the Uvalde [school district] chief of police or anyone else perceived to be in command to point out the lack of and need for a command post, or to offer that specific assistance,”

To hell with the command post. Attack the g%d d%mn shooter! At 75 that is the way for an old guy like me to go out.

“At 75 that is the way for an old guy like me to go out.”

Only 72 here but yes.

This thing is an ugly mess. Lot’s of blame to go around.
But I would like to know who went in the room and ended this.
Reports are Border Patrol SWAT. Not their job/jurisdiction.

Amateurs talk tactics. Professionals talk logistics. The departments spend too much time on the sexy/flashy side of the business. But a POS Incident Commander with no clear line of authority will screw you. Every. Time.
