As a 12 year old living in Greenwood Mississippi in 1955, I probably remember the Emmett Till case a little different than most.
I remember, my dad was sworn in as a deputy to help guard the Leflore County jail against a mob trying to either free or lynch Milam & Bryant, no one was sure which might happen. Tensions were pretty high on both sides of the murder.
(God knows, I remember him strapping on his .38 Colt Police Positive with some of the 4 inch barrel sticking down in to his right rear pocket.)
I remember, being told to NOT go near the court house or any where past my school. Orders I promptly disobeyed.
I remember TV ‘news’ crews damn near surrounding the Leflore County Court House. In a town that maybe 40-50% of the population even had TVs.
I remember, even among my peer group, there were some that said, Till deserved what he got and some that said Milam & Bryant deserved the electric chair.
I remember it was not a happy time in either my life or the history of Leflore County, Mississippi.
Nah. Bear spray has a way of making someone puke, choke, and think they are going to die. When they get off the ground, hit ‘em again and again. I’m kind of mean that way.

A stationary picture does not tell a true tale. It could be a smile of relief, maybe she was PG at the time, and instead of facing a life alone raising a child, the bread winner was coming back home.
You simply cannot know, or ascertain what is in someones mind from a picture.
If an arrest warrant was issued in 1955 the statute of limitations does not apply as a crime and alleged perp were named. But as was asked anove, what were they going to do if she was there.

Why would SHE be charged with kidnapping if she had no part in it? Reportedly her husband and a friend started it, but were acquitted of their charges.
