I’m part of a small group here at free Republic that hopes the US would triumph in such a war with the Russians.

What would that look like? Would we have to occupy Russia to keep from rising up again? Work to keep them in poverty? Make them adopt current western libertinism "or else"?

Germany is still providing money to the Russians because the Russians have fuel. Even the hawks didn't think of invading the USSR on behalf of a lot more nations than Ukraine. I consider Putin's long-term ambitions, and prospects, more limited than Brezhnev's.

War with Russia is not imminent.

But I do believe at this point it will take men of God fearing conscience and character to prevent it becoming imminent.

I don’t see either anywhere near our national decision makers.

War with any near peer enemy, with our current military leadership as well as civilian leadership, is madness. Our fighting men are phenomenal….they are lions, but we are currently led by donkeys .

Neocons prayer come true.

Such US vs Russia garbo always reminds me of a mention made by the former Captain of the USS Dallas:

“We are inclined to overestimate our ability and underestimate our vulnerability.”

Be assured, that if such was to take place or occur, BidenIdiot would have to reverse every Day 1 energy, etc. policy he has nullified, etc. Bet.

Is it really wisdom to dismiss these warnings as "saber-rattling"?

Yes.

Russia isn't going to do a damn thing about it because they can't do anything about. They'll make a big deal out of Europe suffering because of a lack of Russian fossil fuels, and claim that is their revenge.

When they were humiliated in Afghanistan, the Russians didn't use nukes despite the US providing the Afghanis with critical weapons. Had they threatened it, Reagan would have told them to pound sand.

When the Russians were forced to pull out of Eastern Europe, they didn't nuke anybody then either. And when the Soviet Union disintegrated around them, and all the constituent republics went their own way, they still didn't use nukes.

Then we come to Ukraine. The pro-Russia crowd has warned us from the beginning that if we sent supplies to Ukraine through Poland, they'd bomb Poland and start World War III. Didn't happen. They told us if we started sending weapons systems like tanks and artillery to Ukraine, it would start World War 3. Once again, that didn't happen either.

So now, another Russia apologist is telling us that if two small countries that haven't fought an offensive war against Russia in hundreds of years are permitted to join NATO, that will cause World War 3.

Sure it will. Sure.

Just do it and get it overwith! One thing for certain is it wont ever happen again. “I dont know what kind of weapons mankind will be use in world war 3...but in world war 4 they will use sticks and stones.” -A. Einstein.

"I’m part of a small group here at free Republic that hopes the US would triumph in such a war with the Russians. "

You are part of a small group here at free Republic that are insanely and moronically desiring a war 5000 miles away overseas with a giant nuclear power while we suffer a communist totalitarian purge here in America. You and your small cabal are beneath contempt.

Unfortunately, there are arrogant, bubble-dwelling ideologues in DC who share this comic-book fantasy about fighting and somehow "winning" a war with Russia.

Eisenhower gave the Turks a nuclear guarantee in 1954. The Finns are no less deserving and it is no less crazy.

Crazy is giving into Russian threats and giving them control of Europe. Even the Eastern half of Europe.

The Russians don’t have the military capability to march into Kyiv much less into Helsinki.

The Russian conventional military has proven to be a paper tiger. Their nuclear capability is almost certainly far less than claimed. It is highly unlikely they spend the money to maintain their nuclear arsenal. It is almost certain that most of the money that is budgeted for nuclear maintenance disappears into the kleptocracy. In other words most of their shit won’t work on Blow Up the World Day.

In any event we have more than enough nuclear capability to wipe Russia out. And we have more than enough tactical nuclear weapons to go 15 rounds with Russia.

Russians should be just as weary of MAD as we are.

Finns and Ukrainians have the right to govern themselves in a civilized manner and live among the civilized nations of the world. So do Swedes and Poles.

Yeah, so if Poland had just negotiated with Hitler and given Danzig back Hitler wouldn’t have invaded and tried to conquer all of Europe?

Or if the US/NATO had just super promised Ukraine wouldn’t join NATO Putin wouldn’t have invaded the whole country anyway?

Those are two things you said that sound unrealistic

If Putin makes a military move into Finland

This is never going to happen. Vladimir knows damn well what happened the last time they tried that.

NATO should have disbanded soon after the Soviet Union did. Instead it became a hazardous military anachronism. It did as most taxpayer-funded entities would do, it sought a new mission to keep the funding intact and growing. Because we while muggles see government as a set of agencies with different missions, those running the agencies only see funding levels, funding levels, funding levels,...nothing else.

After the Soviet Union fell apart the new NATO mission to keep the funding intact became “terrorism” (that can be read two ways and it should). The engine of terrorism was fueled with double-tap drone strikes on weddings and funeral. You didn’t think those events just kept happening time after time “accidentally”, did you? It’s what is called “unacknowledged policy”.

We should dust-bin NATO along with the “war on terror” and let the Europeans work out their own security compacts.
