Starbucks is closing 16 stores in Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.

The closures are due to "challenging incidents" that make stores unsafe for workers and customers, Starbucks says.

The stores will close by the end of July.

Starbucks is permanently closing 16 locations around the US by the end of July, The Wall Street Journal first reported.

"After careful consideration, we are closing some stores in locations that have experienced a high volume of challenging incidents that make it unsafe to continue to operate, to open new locations with safer conditions," a Starbucks spokesperson told Insider. The incidents involve drug use in stores by customers and other members of the public reported by workers.

The closures are a move to make Starbucks locations safer for customers and employees, the company said, echoing a letter from senior VPs of US operations Debbie Stroud and Denise Nelson sent to employees on July 11. The company also gives local leaders the authority to close bathrooms, reduce seating, and take other measures to keep conditions safe for employees.

Really. I used to stop at Starbucks on a regular basis, got a large coffee and added the condiments available, but after a little while I stopped going. Not for politics, it was just that the coffee sucked. Tasted like it was burnt. McDonalds coffee was far better tasting and cheaper, at that.

Brew my own high quality which works out to save a considerable amount of money. McD’s is great when I am on the road though.

When I was there in 2019 there were plenty of homeless addicts out in the center of town. Not quite San Fran level but still pretty bad. Love Maine but not Portland.

You know what else I like about McD’s coffee besides the taste.

A large coffee costs $1.00

Awhile back I posted almost the identical comment. I drank McDonald’s coffee for years, 73 cents (senior price) free refills, one to go, etc. Good flavor and smooth as silk! I recently stopped drinking it due to unrelated digestive problems, so now I get the vanilla iced coffee, 99 cents any size until 11am. Usually throw in a couple of equal packets to pacify my sweet tooth!

Whatever could these locations have in common with the local homeless and drug addict populations, that have only grown larger and more violent as the years have passed?

And this is what local business leaders and the City councils want worked-from-home employess to come back to?

Because MuhCoof was replaced by MuhUkraine ?

My brother took me to a Starbucks about 20 years ago (he owned stock in the company) and bought me a cup of black coffee.

Even back then it was a chore to make the idiots understand what “JUST COFFEE” was.

Took one slug of it and spit it back into the cup then dropped the whole cup into the trash can.

Told my brother I never wanted to taste such vile crap again, who the hell wants to drink boiled charcoal!
