Starbucks is closing 16 stores in Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
The closures are due to "challenging incidents" that make stores unsafe for workers and customers, Starbucks says.
The stores will close by the end of July.
Starbucks is permanently closing 16 locations around the US by the end of July, The Wall Street Journal first reported.
"After careful consideration, we are closing some stores in locations that have experienced a high volume of challenging incidents that make it unsafe to continue to operate, to open new locations with safer conditions," a Starbucks spokesperson told Insider. The incidents involve drug use in stores by customers and other members of the public reported by workers.
The closures are a move to make Starbucks locations safer for customers and employees, the company said, echoing a letter from senior VPs of US operations Debbie Stroud and Denise Nelson sent to employees on July 11. The company also gives local leaders the authority to close bathrooms, reduce seating, and take other measures to keep conditions safe for employees.

"Good job. It is not private business responsibility to fix these problems. How about the Democratic Mayors in these cities taking "real" action. Many of the cities have ONLY had Democratic Mayors for most of the last 50 years.....S.F....Oakland."
"Wasn't starbucks one of the first to offer restroom facilities to vagrants and homeless, w/no priority given to cash paying customers?"
"These are all in Democrat controlled liberal Utopia's. I wonder what could be challenging."
"What do all these locations have in common? Could it be that they are in super blue areas? Those far left policies are working out so well."
"There is lack of law enforcement and true punishment. I do not even see police on patrol and handing out citations for driving moving violations. The police are afraid of the public."
I understand that Starbucks in some locations would have problems as the readily available public restrooms for the derelicts. But that doesn’t account for the California and Washington State closures; in those states, the sidewalks are always available.
It’s also a list of areas to avoid.
I keep waiting for Walgreens to jettison their remaining locations in San Francisco, only to followed by a lawsuit from San Francisco and/or California indicating they are *required* to remain in San Francisco.
Now if only we would see a headline about the hundreds of AntiFa going through caffeen withdrawl and starving....
That moment when even Starbucks thinks you’re too woke.
The Snowflakes will be confused and conflicted as to why this is happening.
Places not even a proverbial Waffle House would dare to tread....
They probably just need to put up a drug free sign.
Dittos. Starbucks for years has promoted countercultural upheaval and it seems “chickens are coming back to roost.”
The Union Station closure surprises me. You would think security would be rather tight there.
In Seattle, at least, it gets a little drafty with all the windows are busted in.
I find this amusing. Starbucks made such a big deal about how their restrooms and premises were open to all, not just paying customers. They did their virtue signaling on that issue, and apparently, have found that there are “issues” with such policies. But they are afraid of being called racist or worse.
So rather than dealing with issues at these places of business, they have chosen to just close down the places of business. Rather than risk being criticized for being racist or mean to some derelicts, they will avoid the problem by shutting down.
And the “bottom line” could be part of this as well. Maybe some of those locations had people loitering, messing the bathroom etc, and these behaviors scared off actual paying customers.
Hollywood & Vine Starbuck is closing?
How bad must it have been for Starbucks to give up a world famous location?
and yet the religious left-wing idiots will keep voting in the same left-wing idiots.
Lemmings into a hole.
Closures will be the end of July, 2 1/2 weeks from now. Plenty of time for “patrons” to trash those stores. I wouldn’t want to work there the rest of this month.
Westlake Center in Seattle used to be THE PLACE to go for nice shopping, eating, the Christmas displays, etc.
Sad to say like here in New York, Biden could nuke these cities and mass execute civilians on national TV and the brain dead idiots would still vote Democrap.
Biden will blame Trump and they’ll believe him.
