Musk: Time for Trump to 'Sail Into Sunset'
Newsmax ^ | Tuesday, 12 July 2022 09:31 AM EDT | Charlie McCarthy

Elon Musk responded to Donald Trump's recent criticism by saying it was time for the former president to "hang up his hat & sail into the sunset."

Musk commented via Twitter after sharing a story about Trump on Saturday night calling the Tesla and SpaceX CEO a "bullsh*t artist."

"I don't hate the man, but it's time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset," Musk tweeted Monday night. "Dems should also call off the attack – don't make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the Presidency."

Musk's tweet came after Trump's appearance at a rally in Alaska, where the former president suggested the billionaire's move to buy Twitter was a ruse. Trump also called Musk a liar for saying he had never voted for a Republican.

After Musk’s "sunset" tweet, talk show host Joe Pags Pagliarulo asked the billionaire whether he had an issue with Trump's presidency, pointing out policies regarding energy independence, lower regulations, construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, and a the southern border.

"Yeah, but too much drama. Do we really want a bull in a china shop situation every single day!?" Musk tweeted. "Also, I think the legal maximum age for start of Presidential term should be 69."

Another Twitter follower asked Musk why he wouldn't support a 2024 GOP national ticket with Trump at the top and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the vice president nominee. DeSantis then could run in ’28 and ’32.

"Trump would be 82 at end of term, which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America," Musk tweeted in response.

"If DeSantis runs against Biden in 2024, then DeSantis will easily win – he doesn’t even need to campaign."

"Anything less than absolute worship and devotion is an attack."

That sounds like something only a 'neverTrump-er' or libtard would say.

I like Trump but have had (minor, in retrospect) disagreements with him. He is usually right, though.

Musk 1, Trump 0 in round one. Trump made it personal, used questionable language and showed thin skin because Musk likes Desantis. Musk did not attack Trump, acknowledged his political prowess. He discussed age in a general term (Trump and Biden). Folks have no idea what’s going on outside of FR. You claim polls et al,but your opinion means little when you only accept polls you agree with and all others are fake news. Younger folks, the ones who will vote are tired of the drama, Musk is speaking popular thought about it and age. He has a lot of sway. Trump stepped in it. He should drop it. He can’t win.

My point exactly. Say anything that is perceived as less than 100% complimentary and the name calling begins.

Lyn’ Ted, the Canadian-Cuban, what a laugh. DeSantis says he was not running if Trump does. Beyond that, he is not limited his options. If Trump runs, just like the last two times, I will support him. If he does not, at the moment I will support DeSantis.

Case in point, the myriad of polls that show his support has not wavered in the face of persecution that no other Republican candidate for President has ever had to endure.

You have a bunch of Freepers who've said that exact thing. We voted for him because of his policies, but wish he'd shut his yapper and quit shooting himself in the foot. So, we'd show up in polls as supporting him hate the democratic alternative, but we still wish he'd shut his yapper.

Do you honestly believe everyone that voted for the guy is a deliriously over the top Trumper? You don't think there were people who voted for him because of his policies, but disliked his bombastic style? If you don't, you really should get out more and not just congregate with like-minded people.

There are both kinds of "Trump supporters" out there. The truly enthusiastic "he's the only guy who can save our country, and I love it when he spouts off" types, and then the "I support his policies but cringe like hell most of the time when he speaks" crowd. I personally know a few of the latter who are so tired of it they'll sit home if he's the 2024 nominee.

So it’s now an “attack” if you prefer another candidate, even if you don’t say anything bad about Trump??

I’m more of a “There’s no other alternative”. The jury is still out in DeSantis, but other than that, who else is there.

And frankly, that means who out there actually wants the job?

The courts hate Trump and the perception that Musk is an ally with Trump against twitter could be very bad for Musk. The most damaging thing for twitter is being exposed in public and the media is covering for them. A little Musk/Trump dust up media drama distances Musk from Trump and garners media coverage to focus public interest and attention to twitter's fraud, which benefits both Musk and Trump

This actually makes a lot of sense. If you pay attention to the timing, Musk said he would support desantis 4 weeks ago (June 15th). If Trump was just pulling his normal popping off at perceived insult, he would have done so much sooner. So why now? I think you nailed it.🧐👍🏆

You can call it "mean tweets" if you want. I call it "needlessly alienating potential swing voters whose votes we will need in 2024."

He's now doing it with Musk. While the hell go after the guy like that? What possible benefit is there of taking the low road against a powerful guy who hasn't said anything bad about you?

DeSantis can do his time after Trump.

I assume you all saw the crowd in Alaska....
Trump is not a quitter.. he has a work yet to do. He has not wasted the past 2 years..

There is no one else who can clean up the mess in Washington.. let him do that..and DeSantis can carry on with the work after Trump..

There is so much to clean... SO MUCH.. SO MANY. Trump’s age, experience, guts, intelligence... he has earned the right to do the final straw with these corrupt sick anti good pieces of flesh.

Trump will spend 4 years cleaning out the swamp.

He didn't seem to get much of it cleaned out in his first 4 years, and his tactics and style now are absolutely no different than they were before. He has changed literally nothing. So what if the evidence that he's going to do things differently this time?

Here's the problem. It is impossible for any one guy to "drain the swamp". That would involve tens of thousands of personnel decisions he can't make. And not being a legislator/lawyer, he needs a bunch of those as well to fix the various laws and regulations, draft the orders correctly, etc.. So, he needs to have highly competent, intelligence appointees at all levels.

The problem is that he just can't seem not to alienate potential allies on a daily basis. There isn't a single person who served with him his entire Presidency with whom he is on good terms, and he's on bad terms with most of the ones that even only served part time.

How is it going to be any better the second time around?
