Klein described the liberals’ “primal scream” in a new book, titled, “Thank You for Your Servitude: Donald Trump’s Washington and the Price of Submission”. The book, by Mark Leibovitch, describes how establishment GOP leaders:
could almost get away with destroying American democracy — because a significant percentage of the American people, the [Trump voting] folks that we “serious” people keep trying to “understand,” are too lazy and crass and bigoted to care … I’m all in with the Atlantic’s exquisite Caitlin Flanagan, who describes the [January 6] rioters as “deadbeat dads, YouPorn enthusiasts, slow students, and MMA fans . . . with bellies full of beer and Sausage McMuffins, maybe a little high on Adderall.”
[The critcism is] a catharsis [for liberals]! After all those hours of trying to figure out why the most pampered and affluent and free people in history — people up to their ears in cellphones and flat-screen televisions and supercharged pickup trucks — are so angry [at the D.C. establishment], it feels good to whup the yokels upside the head, doesn’t it? I mean, at a certain point, our [elite’s] oh-so-civilized attempts at “understanding” become indulgence. Our attempt to respectfully bind the national wounds becomes a lesser version of the Republicans’ capitulation to the slovenly ignorance of the Trumpers. Why can’t we be as angry at them as they are at us?

I am detecting a microscopic shift in the attitude of WaPo toward Trump and his voters. Just a few days ago the WP issued a correction to a story about Trump (previously unheard of) and issued a mild apology.. and Trump responded with a ‘Thank you to the WaPo’. Then this. Bezos knows Biden has been a flaming disaster - and gas prices are hurting his business. Maybe I am reading too much into this ..but maybe.. he wants to sign a truce with Trump ? Especially given a decent chance that he will be back.
