When word broke on Monday night that Heinz Field would acquire a new name, the smart money would have been on a local concern like UPMC snagging the rights. But the Steelers apparently weren’t in the mood for another hometown discount.
Get ready for Acrisure Stadium to debut on the shores of the Mon, Ohio, and Allegheny. Don’t say, “Sure, Jan.” Acrisure, according to Andrew Fillipponi if 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, will be the new name of the venue. The official announcement is coming as soon as Tuesday.
Acrisure is a Michigan-based insurance brokerage firm. Never heard of it? Think it sounds more made up than Vandelay Industries? Join the club. And that’s why they’ll be paying whatever they’ll be paying to slap their name onto the place where one of the highest-profile teams in football plays.
“Vandelay Industries Stadium.” LOL!
Acrisure Stadium
heh! That rolls off the tongue /sarc
Who paid to build that stadium? The Steelers owernship, or the city? Who is getting the money from the naming rights?
Remember when football was a sport, and not a business?
It’s a distant and faded memory for me.
Mix of public and private funding, most of it coming from the county. Here’s a short case study about it: https://www.cmu.edu/steinbrenner/brownfields/Case%20Studies/pdf/heinz-field.pdf
Pro football was always a business.
Just be thankful it isn’t “BLM Stadium”
Pro football was always a business.

I know it, but in there was a time where they didn’t look like they were whoring everything out for money.
Why don’t they just use succinct apropos names like Union Graft Stadium?
Indeed. I’d quit rooting for the team. That would be a bridge too far for me.
Apparently ACME was the name of the company that made the traffic lights that featured semaphore-type arms that read ‘STOP’ and ‘GO’ that were used in SoCal in the 40’s. WB cartoonists liked the name. Have no idea if ACME ever produced explosive bird seed or anvils.
The Acrisure Arena is an oasis for Artists and Musicians to quench their spiritual needs surrounded by the millions of stars that fill our desert sky. Exclusive resorts, spas, golf, tennis, pickleball, hiking, ATVs, and more await all adventure seekers. Come see a great show or catch a game, then stay to enjoy the lifestyle that is Coachella...
What you have in store.
At least we know who is sponsoring them.
Changing the subject, I wish our elected officials had to wear patches of their biggest donors on their suits just like pro racing drivers.
I miss the original names of venues. Corporate names disgust me.
How about naming a stadium” BM Stadium”. It would explain all the kneeling.
Especially phony-sounding corporate names like this one. I was hoping that the Steelers would buck the trend and go back to Three Rivers Stadium or even something like Rooney Field.
Nope, the ownership likes a buck just like anyone. I do not blame them for taking the money but I think they could have found a better-sounding company at least.
That was back when the league was run by people who mainly liked football.
