One hundred forty-three days.
That is how long Brittney Griner has been behind bars in Russia. That is how long she has been stuck in the middle of a high-stakes staredown between the United States and Russia at exactly the wrong time, ...
...
The seven-time All-Star center for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury pleaded guilty Thursday, admitting wrongdoing. In so many words, Griner and her lawyer said her troubles began with a mistake: She was readying quickly for her flight to Russia in February and inadvertently packed the smoking cartridges with the small amounts of hashish oil — less than a single gram, ...

Good point.
Michael Fay was the young man who was caned in Singapore in 1994. He received four strokes, a reduced sentence. I checked Google, there was another young man who received three strokes for a simular offense.
Is one gram of hashish oil enough to get you high?
yes, about 10 separate times
I honestly feel we should not play the national anthem during our season. I think we should take that much of a stand.”
So, hates America, and she (apparently) smuggles drugs, and some see her as a "victim" worth diplomatic effort of any kind?
ESPECIALLY those of us who have spent considerable time in Russia on many trips???
Interesting.
Inadvertently? I feel sorry for her, but I don’t believe that.
“Brittney Griner is now one hundred forty-three days sober and drug-free.”
Good luck — she’s in a Russian jail. I hope she avoids TB and AIDS.
I seem to remember that he returned to his petty criminal ways back in the US. He would have been on much better behavior if he stayed in Singapore.
you win the thread
She has been on the Phoenix Mercury for 7 years. I imagine she is well paid. She tried to smuggle in hash oil for her personal use. So, does she recompense the US government for its efforts to get her out, particularly if we have to cough up a narco terrorist serving 25 years in exchange for her and her foolishness in trying to smuggle in hash oil.
+1
Who among us hasn’t been in a hurry to pack for a trip, and inadvertently tossed drugs into our suitcase?

LOL. Fortunately, I don’t have any to inadvertently toss in.
I mentioned that all these the high-profile Americans on trial in Russia are cheap on their attorneys.
Trevor Reeds defense made him plead not guilty but the testimony was that he was drank and remembers nothing. That’s the most stupid line of defense one can imagine after attacking a cop.
Now, Griner pleads guilty to the contraband of the narcotic substance but then testifies that it wasn’t intentional meaning not guilty. How stupid is it? Russian court defines this situation as “refused to admit guilt in face of overwhelming evidence and unrepentant” hence non-eligible for leniency normally associated with the plea of guilt.
Indeed. Let her rot...
It is my understanding that Griner had been playing wooly ball professionally, in Russia, for the past seven years. Certainly enough time to know the laws of host country.
