Bannon, Facing Jail and Fines, Agrees to Testify to Jan. 6 Panel
New York Times ^ | July 10, 2022 | Luke Broadwater and Maggie Haberman

Posted on 07/10/2022 2:11:21 PM PDT by lowbridge

With his criminal trial for contempt of Congress approaching, Stephen K. Bannon, an ally of former President Donald J. Trump’s who was involved in his plans to overturn the 2020 election, has informed the House committee investigating the Capitol attack that he is now willing to testify, according to two letters obtained by The New York Times.

His decision is a remarkable about-face for Mr. Bannon, who until Saturday had been among the most obstinate and defiant of the committee’s potential witnesses. He had promised to turn the criminal case against him into the “misdemeanor from hell” for the Justice Department.

But with the possibility of two years in jail and large fines looming on the horizon, Mr. Bannon has been authorized to testify by Mr. Trump, his attorney told the committee late on Saturday in a letter, which was reported earlier by The Guardian.

The former president had previously instructed Mr. Bannon and other associates not to cooperate with the panel, claiming that executive privilege — a president’s power to withhold certain internal executive branch information, especially confidential communications involving him or his top aides — compelled them to stay silent.

But in recent days, as several witnesses have come forward to offer the House panel damning testimony about his conduct, Mr. Trump has grown frustrated that one of his fiercest defenders has not yet appeared before the committee, people close to him said.

“Mr. Bannon is willing to, and indeed prefers, to testify at your public hearing,” Robert J. Costello, Mr. Bannon’s attorney, wrote to Representative Bennie Thompson, Democrat of Mississippi and the chairman of the committee.

Mr. Costello said that Mr. Bannon’s decision to comply with the committee’s subpoena came after he was cleared to testify by Mr. Trump.

With his criminal trial for contempt of Congress approaching, Stephen K. Bannon,

Did I miss Eric Holder’s contempt of Congress trial? I know he was held in contempt, but the memory of his criminal trial eludes me.

What I do assume is Bannon has zero damning evidence to share against Trump. It’s all just bs.//

Didn’t Bannon leave the WH in 2018? This whole thing is a hope that Bannon holds a grudge against Trump. Its going nowhere.

Something about the Tar-Baby story fits in here.

He should take the 5th. A DC jury would convict him no matter what he said on the merits, true or false.

Perhaps he will quote Hillary?

“Hillary avoided indictment for perjury and obstruction of justice during the Starr investigation by repeating, ‘I do not recall,’ ‘I have no recollection,’ and ‘I don’t know’ a total of 56 times while under oath.”

There is going to be payback against this evil, corrupt sham “committee”. They themselves are going to be put on the stand (wearing leg shackles) and have to answer questions under oath, starting on January 21, 2023.

The Grand Chief Inquisitor is going to be Stephen K. Bannon himself.

I would pay to see this. Bringing Bannon in to testify to their little kangaroo court is like inviting Godzilla over so you can poke him with a stick. It won’t go well (for them).

Just plead the 5th to every question. You owe these people anything. Doesn’t matter what it looks like.

I'm sure that's the plan. Bannon doesn't mind a bit of publicity, but he won't get a live hearing. I'm not sure of the details of the last pardon he got, but I believe it only covered his fraud conviction related to building the wall. So he'll take the 5th.

Follow Hillary’s lead: “I don’t recall.”

Privileges apply at the time the communication is made. If you have a privileged communication with your lawyer, the communication generally remains privileged unless and until you release it, even years after you are no longer a client of the lawyer.

I will believe Bannon testifying before the January 6 committee when it actually happens and not before.

This is the DemonKKKrat’s effort to round up all of Trump’s inner circle to squeeze them of any incriminating information on Trump. It is a fishing expedition that catches the fish, milks them dry and locks them away so no one can get the real truth. This is a dangerous turn into the tactics of the Soviet Union which really is the nature of the totalitarian Communists behind all of this.

Also, practice stating in the mirror, “I cannot recall”.

I think it would be really great if Bannon testifies that he was working for Hillary Clinton and the Democrats to try to take Trump down. How could they prove otherwise? 😉 It. Would. Be. Epic! And a huge slap down to the Democrats

The demoncraps could never provide enough evidence to the contrary without exposing themselves as the liars, corrupt, cheats they are. EPIC

I wonder if Bannon has been reenacting Disney’s song of the south telling everyone to not throw him in the briar patch. now my Question is if he testifies will the results be the same as trying to hit a tar baby.
