Morton's says it has been swamped with fake reservations after it defended Brett Kavanaugh's "right" to "eat dinner."
Kavanaugh was dining at a DC location when demonstrators gathered outside to protest the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
The justice left out a back door, with Morton's later saying the demonstration was "void of decency."
A steakhouse chain is being flooded with phone calls and fake reservations over its defense of Associate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's "right" to "eat dinner" at one of its restaurants, where demonstrators gathered outside to protest his support of overturning Roe v. Wade.
Morton's this week sent a memo to its restaurant managers telling them to brace for more backlash to its remarks defending the jurist, Politico reported Saturday. Kavanaugh was one of five justices who voted last month to overturn Roe, the landmark 1973 decision that legalized abortion in the United States and afforded a constitutional right to the procedure.
"Currently we are experiencing a massive wave (trending at #2 on social media now) of negative response to our comments yesterday as well as being bombarded at the local level with phone calls and fake reservations on Open Table," Scott Crain, the SVP and COO of Morton's, wrote to restaurant managers in an email obtained by Politico.
"I am making you aware of this because there is a good chance that your restaurants will also potentially have some people reaching out for comment and/or making (bogus) reservations over the next few days," Crain continued. "As I stated yesterday, our comment is always 'No Comment.' We don't respond, we don't retweet, we don't post on Instagram or Facebook, we don't do anything."

They should require an authorized credit card number for a reservation. Tell these wackos that a no-show is $50. (Wouldn’t even have to do it - just the threat would stop the charade).

Good idea. Just require a $50 or even $100 deposit that will be deducted from the bill. All decent people will understand what they’re going through.

That should be $50 - $100 per person for people who are unknown to the restaurant. Caller ID should be able to distinguish the fake reservations from the real ones. Lots of high end restaurants require reserving with a card.
BTW, Trump should have used such a system with the Tulsa rally a couple of years ago. There could have been provisions to get free merchandise or a refund for people actually attending. A no-show would to towards paying for the venue.
50 clams for the opportunity to be disruptive wouldn’t deter those who are so intent.

Easily solved. New policy: table reservations must include valid CC and will be pre-authorized for $50 (just an arbitrary number on my part) in the event of no show to reserve a table and time.

Your heart is in the right place, but Morton's is absolutely disgusting since Landry's took over. They no longer serve top quality Chicago aged steaks, but pre-frozen, often South American cuts. The vegetables are what you'd get at a TGI Fridays. The chefs have been replaced by line cooks that would be just as competent serving you at a sports arena.
Again, I agree with you in applauding Morton's response and feel for them being assailed by the liberal mob, but what you're suggesting is throwing money away into a (likely liberal) corporation.
If this doesn't fall off the front page, expect a groveling apology from Landry's.
Such unlawful activity is what can be expected when lawless people see what they can get away with. It’s been happening since the very first civilized societies were formed, and it will never be any different. In short, no society can stop ever increasing instances of criminal behavior once it is allowed to go unpunished. That cause and effect law is immutable!
Anyone in or near DC needs to stop by to see if they have tables available. These are good Americans unfairly being attacked.
That’s a great idea and as one who often makes reservations at restaurant, I would have no problem with a $50 deposit.
