Our '67-year old general Pavel' turns out to be the 58-year old Ivan Ivanovich Turchin, veteran of both the Russian military and the Border Guard.
He retired in 2011, after 20 years of service at the border in Uzbekistan.
So this 'exclusive' story - first published by the Daily Star, and picked up by The Sun, The Daily Mail, the New York Post etc. - turns out to be entirely fictional.
We have reached out to the Daily Star for comment but have not received a reply, as of today
And a heck of a border he had to guard!
When this fake news trash was dragged into this forum:

The maxitroll is STILL on it like a dog on a full cat box...
But the Ukrainians will retake lost territories using Arma 3 and Ghost of Kiev.....
Bet.

Will we ever get an apology from our fake news peddlers? Or is it just on to the next lie?
Wonder if Captain Jonathan S. Tuttle served under him?
So he’s really just hanging out and eating cheeseburgers like Chris Christy 🤪
“If that is his 2011 uniform..”
While being humorous, you posted a great observation.
That uniform appears to be a light brown/tan colorway that has been in use with the Коллективные силы оперативного реагирования (KSOR, or Collective Rapid Reaction Force) since around 2013. It is interesting to note that uniforms have appeared with the pattern although these seem to have been used strictly for parade formations and not for combat deployments. Some special operations personnel not attached to the KSOR have also been documented wearing uniforms in a similar pattern.
So this guy is definitely a border guard with a new uniform made for him that post dated his military commitment time frame. The Russians are about as transparent as the Biden administration. Only they don’t have Trump to blame when they get caught.

How does he aim doing number 1?
I just had lunch with Tuttle.
Hmmm...
I thought it was actually Chris Christie in military drag...
But at least the The Three Stooges of FreeRepublic provide some laughs when they continue to nail their feet to the floor and run around in circles.
The ship still floats!

Good catch thanks for your observation
“Nubie, it is interesting that you are able to espouse on Russian Military units and their uniform history.”
Nubie? Since the mid 90’s. And I spent 35 years working in and for the military, between active duty, Department of the Army, and the last of it DOD at the Pentagon where I was retired medically. My main background for the civilian designation was NBC with field operations downrange in a couple of locations, the first in Vietnam, and the last in Afghanistan. So with that history, I would say it affords me the possible opportunity to be familiar with Russian military history, especially around the 2011-12 time frame when I was forced retired due to medical conditions, everything honorable.
And we were talking about Russian uniforms, not the theories of combat or reasons for hostility in a foreign nation concerning their delayed civil war. So how you got to that, is a bit of a mystery.
As for espousing, I don’t try to display your failure in your observations of the Ukrainian conflict whether I agree with them or not. Especially without identifying them or any proof. I spent half my life defending your right to have them, it would be a little nescient of me to try to strike it down.
We’re here to learn, deal with facts. This is how improvements are made. If you find something I say that you can say is untrue, they say so and prove it. It’s not above me to learn something new and right a wrong. Otherwise, hammering the messenger is not only worthless but a step back in society.

I figured they were only half wrong as they could have displayed him in the winter suit complete with thermal underwear. And the black thermal two piece base underwear is a perfect finish for the winter ensemble since they are dressing him for success and not the truth.
