French women push to cement abortion rights after US ruling The right to abortion in France has been inscribed in law for 47 years and enjoys broad support across the political spectrum

PARIS -- The right to abortion in France hardly seems under threat — it’s been inscribed in law for 47 years and enjoys broad support across the political spectrum. But more and more French women are asking: Could what happened in the U.S. happen here one day?

The decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to strip women of the right to abortion has reverberated across Europe's political landscape, forcing the issue back into public debate in France at a time of political upheaval.

With women increasingly taking leadership positions in French politics, lawmakers in both houses of parliament have proposed four bills to enshrine the right to abortion in the French Constitution in order to defend it from future threats.

The most notable initiative comes from President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance. His detractors on the left say Macron's party is being opportunist, while far-right critics accuse it of using the issue to distract from more pressing matters.

Abortion in France was decriminalized under a 1975 law named for Simone Veil, a prominent legislator, former health minister and key feminist who championed it.

“This right was fought for and was inalienable,” said Yaël Braun-Pivet, the first woman elected speaker of the National Assembly, France’s most powerful house of parliament. In her first address to the chamber last week, Braun-Pivet made the inscription of abortion rights into the French Constitution a top priority.

“It is my conviction as a woman today that we need to be the watchdog so that it stays in place forever,” Braun-Pivet said.

This is why France is being conquered by Islam. They're the children you couldn't bother to have.

Not much of a spectrum in terms of social conservatives. Once voters social conservatives reach the point of despair on a few key issues: divorce, abortion, and in predominately Catholic countries, Birth Control, it is Katy-bar-the-door for the society as a whole. Pius XI, with Casti Connubii, was prophetic. Paul VI merely echoed him in Humanae Vitae, and John Paul II followed suit.

The train left the station in Europe in a notable way nearly a century ago with the Lambeth conference, and trains are hard to slow down and nearly impossible to turn around. It left the station here with divorce being more tolerated and permissible about the same time, but I would say that the notable event would be Griswold v. Connecticut. Dodds will to some extent discouple the U.S. train, but the front half will accelerate on its way down the high way to hell, and while some of the cars on the back half will go in reverse for a little bit on some issues, that isn’t the same thing as turning around.

I do not claim to have an ability to turn a society around, but I can play Monday morning quarterback at least as well as most.

— Did you hear about the French army rifle that was for sale? Never fired, dropped once…

— Why did the French plant trees along the Champs-Élysées? So the Nazis could march in the shade…

These are not a principled people we should to aspire to emulate.

Do they have abortion on demand for any reason up until the due date? That’s what Roe & Doe allowed. Like most of Europe, with the exception of Belgium, they have reasonable restrictions on this heinous procedure. So Europe should STFU about “the horror” of Roe being overturned.

I’ve been reading these stories for days. Where are the accounts of women who are pro-life? Everything the media prints makes it sound like abortion is just great and a wonderful surgery, no more consequential than getting a little Botox and a waxing. Just a fun day at the spa.

This is why you never compromise with the Left.
France has a reasonably ban on abortions after 14 weeks I believe.
But it’s never enough.

I am not real smart...but is it really hard to figure out that “abortion on demand” will in the long run, reduce your population.

Have I read that Europe is NOT thriving as a place where the population universe GROWS. Plain words, people not creating little babies.

Have we learned nothing from the Shakers?

Yeah, conservatives are invisible to the French media; all they see is the left so the "spectrum" runs all the way from progressive to Marxist.
Reminds me of the bar scene from The Blues Brothers where they ask the lady, "what kind of music do you play here?" And she answers, "we play both kinds, country AND western."

Apparently, it just isn’t enough to be satisfied you can get an abortion in another state or another country. To them, the ability to murder an unborn soul has to be free, available and ubiquitous. Not only that. With all the former, they STILL want it to be endorsed and ‘loved’ by mankind, it seems.

They think similarly for other aspects of their perverted souls. Homosexuality and all its evolutionary variations are a good example. Not satisfied with their own growth (however that happens) they have to groom, influence and brainwash little children.

I think it all stems from one human frailty/trait. That misery loves company. It’s lonesome to be alone and outcast of disapproved of in any manner by anyone.

In Canada, for most of the country, the rightwing, practically, is a mix of social conservatives who have despaired and economic conservatives who are willing to tolerate despairing social conservatives, with a tacit understanding that nothing socially conservative will ever be accomplished even if power is achieved.

Sort of like the U.S. Senate, but slightly worse.

And imports fundamental Muslims who sometimes murder the mother of children as well, From not less a liberal feminist source as https://www.brandeis.edu/projects/fse/muslim/honor.html

FSEP Muslim Sexual Ethics Muslim Sexual Ethics:

Honor Killings, Illicit Sex, & Islamic Law

Intimate violence against women is a worldwide crisis. From “crimes of passion” to “dowry deaths,” not to mention domestic violence, many types of aggression against women occur at the hands of family members. The so-called “honor killing” of women and girls in some Muslim nations is one horrifying manifestation of this global phenomenon.
These killings, which occur with shocking regularity in certain parts of the Middle East and South Asia, target women whose actions—actual or suspected—violate the honor of their families, an honor that is thought to depend on the sexual purity of its female members. Anything from speaking with an unrelated man, to rumored pre-marital loss of virginity, to an extra-marital affair can be cause for an attack, often carried out by a father or brother. In some especially tragic instances, even women and girls who have been raped are slain to remove the stain from the family honor. As with other forms of intimate violence against women, perpetrators are seldom punished.
