(CNN)Rep. Liz Cheney has become an unexpected hero for Democrats. She was one of the few Republicans to vote to impeach President Donald Trump last year, has served as one of his most vocal critics in the GOP and is the vice chair of the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol.
But we shouldn't mistake adoring press coverage and bipartisan bona fides for popularity in the place where popularity matters most for Cheney: Wyoming. A look at the data reveals that Cheney should be regarded as the clear underdog in her efforts to retain her seat.
Polling from Wyoming is limited, but what does exist paints an ominous picture. The Cooperative Election Study (CES), a large academic survey, asks Americans whether they approve or disapprove of their member of Congress.
The sample sizes in each district are usually in the lower 100s or fewer, though the trend is illuminative. Cheney sported a 72% disapproval rating in the late 2021 edition of the survey, which was fielded about 10 months after she voted to impeach Trump. That was up nearly 40 points from her 26% disapproval rating in the late 2020 version, which was fielded before Cheney's vote. All told, Cheney was the least popular member of Congress in the 2021 survey.

She’s a liberal bitch posing as a republican would be my guess.
Not in Wyoming she won’t.
Cheney completely committed political suicide. She may recovered after voting to impeach, maybe, but there is no way she needed to be Pelosi’s pet. She chose very poorly and she will get what she deserves.
She should be honest with everyone and switch parties and run as a Democrat.
She’s in trouble when McConnell and McCarthy say so.
The Wyoming Republican primary is in August.... and it’s an open primary!!!
OMG! She is actually going to have to face the knuckledraggers....errr....I mean voters in (looks at map) Wyoming! Why, that’s right in the middle of the country. That’s very far from New York City or the Left Coast. Don’t they know she’s done such a good job of representing the uniparty in Washington DC? Why should she be worried about the parochial concerns of people in far away Wyoming? Its so unfaaaaaaaaair!!!!
She lived in DC bubble too long but she had to pretend to be a Republican to get elected.
It appears that many of RINOs' progency are liberal. George W. Bush is somewhat Conservative but his wife and daughters are all liberal. Just like Dick Cheney's daughters.
Kicking her to the curb is only the beginning. She is going to be hounded for the rest of her miserable, stinking life. I tell you now, she will have to go into hiding and have numerous body guards follow her around wherever she goes. Excruciating pain is going to be inflicted on that treacherous, coup plotting b1tch! Trump is taking names and is not going to forget!
Cheney hates Trump to the point of OBSESSION. Pelosi is obsessed with him too. Their focus is to destroy him & stop him from running again.
She doesn’t care right now.
Someone is paying for her to run for President or VP in ‘24.
Same thing as Kasich from OH in ‘20 but of course he was lied to.
The Radical Democrats would never support a split ticket or a liberal Republican.
Not in Wyoming she won’t.
She won’t lose her primary, or won’t run as an independent?
It was her Daddy's seat - Liz spend part of her sixth and her seventh grades in Wyoming according to Wiki but graduated from McClean High School in Virginia. That isn't really much in the way of roots, but it isn't accidental that Wyoming has a very small population, which means that outside campaign money can have a disproportionate influence. Until, of course, they find out who she really is, which is a complete dynastic Beltway political insider.
The voters in Wyoming are certainly to be forgiven for feeling a little used, IMHO. The political political establishment, and not Wyoming interests, gave Liz her marching orders and she saluted smartly and voted to impeach Trump. Her reward was lavish praise as a "real" Republican, meaning a closet Democrat, a seat on the J6 show trials, and more monetary support from NoVa, which has become a suburb of DC, than from her putative home state. That might have put her over the top by itself until she made pro-life comments on the overturning of Roe v Wade, which did not please the Democrat Powers That Be. And the Republican PTB are looking Trumpier by the day.
“spend” = “spent”. Sorry about that.
Why Lez Romney Will Get a Boot Up Her Fat Butt 🤪
I had her figured out when she wanted the Senate seat despite a decent incumbent. Kay Bailey pulled the same crap in Tx. She’s got a job somewhere in NATO but Cheney can only hope for an ambassadorship in a democrat administration.
She will not win as an independent. Not in WY.
There is not a conservative bone in any bush body.
They, like the Clintons, are a crime cartel
Didn’t mean to capitalize clinton...
Damn autocorrect
