You don’t need to be a psychiatrist to know that the Highland Park shooter is sick in the head.
His evil act is unfathomable, but he does fit a familiar pattern of mass killers: alienated young male stoners who appear to be in the grip of a distinctively American madness.
Those who knew the 21-year-old suspect, Robert Crimo III, say he habitually smoked cannabis, a habit he appeared to share with young mass shooters, including at Uvalde, Dayton, Parkland and Aurora.
Obviously weed didn’t make them commit their evil acts, but it may have scrambled their brains enough for empathy to take a holiday.
As the country rushes headlong into the embrace of Big Weed, we need to heed the warning signs, not least in the scientific literature which increasingly shows that cannabis triggers psychosis, and in the emergency rooms where mentally ill kids are the living proof of its harms.

[A New York newspaper] last month warned of the high potency of cannabis products in the newly deregulated legal market and the potentially harmful effects to young brains: “Psychosis, Addiction, Chronic Vomiting: As Weed Becomes More Potent, Teens Are Getting Sick”.
THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, 20 years ago was at about 4% potency, but today’s Big Weed products are close to 100%.
We have known for at least 15 years that cannabis use can increase the risk of psychosis in susceptible people by about 40%, according to the medical journal Lancet.
A study last year of 204,000 people aged 10-24 in the Journal of the American Medical Association’s pediatrics publication found that cannabis use and abuse is associated with depression, bipolar disorder and increased risk of suicide.

Reefer Madness?
Some people go crazy with alcohol, why does it become impossible to recognize reefer causing mental conditions for some people?
Has their been studies on it?
More likely psych drugs
Yes there have studies. Pot is linked to crazy like tobacco to lung cancer
why do you think they call it dope?
I’ve got an old friend who lives in Houston, a long time cannabis smoker. You can’t convince him with any argument it’s bad.
Now the bizarre part.
He has 1 1/2 lungs. He had a tumor removed along with half of one lung about x years ago. He has COPD on what is remaining.
BTW he’s not an old hippy, just the opposite politically. He’s an old rocker, biker, Pit Bull enthusiast sort.
No..
But, if you check his medical background, I would bet a days wages that he on some type of prescribed psycotropic drug..ie..
xanax, prosac, etc.
All the looney tune shoots have been on or withdrawing from their use
ALL OF THEM
Reefer? Who writes this stuff? Damon Runyon?
If he smoked pot then he didn’t buy those guns legally.
With the potency of today’s reefer I wouldn’t be surprised.
I have read articles more than once about a connection of young males, pot and schizophrenia. My best buddies younger Brother fits that description.
No. Bad parenting, a corrupt social media world, and SSRIs drove him there…
Saying it was weaker 20 years ago sounds like old scare tactics. I remember 30 years ago when people would say, Oh, the stuff in the 60’s was mild, but the stuff today is way too potent!
No, he didn't. Like Hunter.
Back in the ‘70s when I smoked it, it was pretty potent stuff.
I’m glad I don’t anymore, it made me a paranoid wreck.
I don’t drink, don’t smoke-anything-and I’m good with that.
Tobacco use is extremely CORRELATED with schizophrenia and something like 60-80% of mentally ill heavily smoke cigarettes depending on the study. Several times more than average population so there is far stronger correlation for crazy people to smoke cigs than use cannabis.
Tobacco studies admit it is most likely correlation due to mentally ill more likely to self medicate. Tobacco offers the mentally ill some relief so they are simply much more likely to abuse it after trying. They don’t attempt to say that correlation of tobacco abuse and being schizo means smoking “MAY HAVE CAUSED” it.
In a true apples-to-apples twin study to determine actual causation (not just statistical correlation), ZERO brain differences were detected in the cannabis abusing twins. Not a single case of damage or insanity when twins were compared.
While twins abusing alcohol were shown to have brain damage detectable in scans by age 24!
