I remember watching some special which talked about these guidestones. Really weird and creepy stuff, nobody has ever been able to even track down who funded them or built them, supposedly it was all done through some non-existent corporate entities linked to Switzerland that all ceased to exist as soon as the project was complete. It’s assumed it was some eccentric Billionaire or some shadowy group that didn’t want their names associated with it. The locals down in Georgia also hated the stones and there had been several attempts over the years to destroy them. I guess somebody finally pulled it off.
