Two more Britons in Ukraine detained and charged by Russia

Two more British men detained by Russian forces in Ukraine have been charged by Moscow with fighting as mercenaries, according to Russian state media TASS.

Aid worker Dylan Healy and military volunteer Andrew Hill have been charged by Russian proxy courts, which are not recognized internationally.

It comes after two other British men, Shaun Pinner and Aiden Aslin, as well as Moroccan national Brahim Saadoune, were sentenced to death last month. They were facing the same charges.

“We condemn the exploitation of prisoners of war and civilians for political purposes and have raised this with Russia,” a spokesperson for the British Foreign Office said.

“We are in constant contact with the government of Ukraine on their cases and are fully supportive of Ukraine in its efforts to get them released,” the office added.

Healy and Hill were reportedly captured by Russian forces in Ukraine in April.

The European Court of Human Rights issued an order for interim measures in the earlier case, saying that Russia “should ensure that the death penalty imposed on the applicants was not carried out; ensure appropriate conditions of their detention; and provide them with any necessary medical assistance and medication.”

-------

There is a problem here.

Traditionally, our intel services identify who is traveling abroad to fight and law enforcement intercepts them.  The Department of State sets up obstacles and we do not make it easy for someone.

However, this is different.

Our Department of State recommended against it (whatever BS that is) but essentially did nothing to stop folks going there.  The primary route was via Poland.

Our intel and law enforcement didn't stop folks either.

But it gets worse.

The Ukraine was basically advertising online for mercenaries, at one point on their state department equivalents website in those foreign countries where they knew they might be able to attract mercenaries.  They were so bold and open about this that Austria asked them to stop it: https://www.faz.net/aktuell/politik/ausland/ukraine-konflikt-oesterreich-untersagt-die-anwerbung-von-soldaten-18037232.html (The article is Austria demanding Ukraine cease online recruitment through their embassy).

And yes, Ukraine had folks from all over, including Brazil, the US, Germany, UK, Austria: https://exxpress.at/die-liste-des-kremls-5-oesterreicher-kaempfen-fuer-ukraine-2-bereits-tot/ (2 of the 5 known Austrians fighting there are known to be dead).

Then there is yet another issue.  Who really paid for these mercenaries?  You can say Ukraine did, but that would be a little disingenuous.  We gave Ukraine money, gobs and gobs of it and they turned around and hired mercenaries, to the tune of >6,000 of them.

Finally, you have Western governments and our MSM in lockstep essentially "propagandizing" in this war, painting one side as entirely wrong, the other as entirely right.  Instead of neutrality and objectivity, because we stood to gain and were a party to it, we were a belligerent (frankly we started this war), and we were telling the masses about the plight of the poor Ukraine at the hands of the evil Russians (got folks stirred up no different than in the Middle East with the Arabs).

So the question now is, do we as a society and do our governments (all of the Western cheerleaders for this war) have a responsibility towards these people where we pumped their head full of shit, let them go there, and where we essentially were paying for them (but of course our government created some insulation and plausible deniability for that last issue)?

Until very recently, I was an IC/PMI for a governemt client. I have a lot of friends in the business who were - mostly jokingly -forwarding ads fron headhunters looking for people to go to Ukraine.

We all laughed. Nobody I know or know of would touch it. The money was *outstanding*, but nobody who's been in the biz is THAT dumb.

The occasional guys I've seen in reports doing it (or getting caught or killed) look like scrubs and d-bags. Nobody knows any of them.

The Brits can have a nice big cup of STFU, with their 24/7 propagandizing of the war.

Sit and spin, Liz Truss.

...fully supportive of Ukraine in its efforts to get them released,...

Now that's rich.   How about you don't let your subjects go to fight wars as mercenaries?   And if they do get captured you might negotiate as your own sovereign nation on their behalf, rather than trust one of the most corrupt governments in the world that was glad to use your subjects as gullible cannon fodder, to negotiate for their release.

I am reading all posts with interest without commenting on a sad situation.

I noticed that too.

Which brings up even another point.

The fact that some of these dudes Ukraine hired with our money essentially, who we let go there, and who were getting pumped up by a Western MSM (which is now cooling off on this topic - reality is settling in)... were “imbeciles” makes one ask if they are entirely responsible.

We don't let kids enter into legally binding contracts either.

If you dig around you'll see that a lot of these guys/gals that went there had go-cams mounted to their helmet, blogging about every detail daily (including where they are at - images of peers, equipment, defensive perimeters...).

Really? https://pipanews.com/brazilian-model-joins-ukraines-military-as-deadly-sniper-killed-after-destroying-russian-missile-bunker/ You can't make that up!

Sure, they give themselves titles like “elite commando sniper” and head into a war zone with the Russians but are essentially clueless. Not going to end well. I bet some of these folks didn't even truly consider what would happen if taken prisoner, let alone the idea that they may get killed (after all, only the Russians are dying).

The point I'm trying to make is that these are folks that had no clue about what they were getting themselves into. The Western MSM sounded like a Nazi news real from 1944 (Where they were screaming “we are winning on all fronts” over the radio). You had talk about Ukraine invading Russia, taking the Crimea back... Obviously this wasn't a very dangerous endeavor because those cross eyed mentally retarded Russians led by the Asperger's suffering Putin can't possibly be hard to deal with. I mean, just look at the casualty statistics that were being reported early on (which also has faded away)... Ukraine is kicking ass and winning! Hahaha

We all know who the Russian blogger is mentioned in the above article: Intel Slava Z

Sadly, that is one of the few places you can actually get news from the Russian perspective, since in our free speech, open minded, tolerant and inclusive society we have all but censored anything which does not fit a defined narrative. I'm sure some of the guys going there have a clue, but many that went there didn't.

Notice how quiet the White House is on this topic?

Notice how quiet the MSM (MSNBC, CNN, NYT’s) is on this topic?

Some interesting statistics:

https://exxpress.at/media/2022/06/image-1.jpg

https://exxpress.at/media/2022/06/img-9658.jpg

We have 214 dead Americans. We have American prisoners that are facing the death penalty. While the White House is silent and the MSM isn't asking any questions.

And this is the sad part: where were the Republicans? Why did they not question the necessity of NATO admission by Ukraine? Why did they not question some of the policies of this administration which for example allowed these people to travel there easily to fight as a de facto mercenary? This was an opportune chance to practice opposition politics, no differently than the Democrats did with Iraq, only with Ukraine you actually had legitimate points to question and they stayed silent.
