Pennsylvania Republican Senate nominee Dr. Mehmet Oz called on Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney to resign Tuesday, after the mayor publicly said he couldn't wait for his term to end, given the recent rash of gun violence.
"I'm waiting for something bad to happen all the time," Kenney said during an impromptu press conference Monday night, after two Philadelphia police officers had been shot during a Fourth of July fireworks celebration. "I'll be happy when I'm not mayor, and I can enjoy some stuff."
That prompted Oz to say that Kenney should step down immediately.
"Mayor Kenney should resign from office," Oz said in a statement. "Kenney's comments about how he will be happy when he is no longer mayor is further indication he has given up on Philadelphia."
Oz — who will face Democratic Senate nominee John Fetterman in the November general election — also denounced the "radical far-left policies" of Kenney, Fetterman (Pennsylvania's current lieutenant governor), and Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, reasoning their supposed softness on crime has led to a spike of homicides in the metro Philly area.
"We need to restore safety and security to Philadelphia and all of Pennsylvania – it begins by getting rid of Kenney, Krasner and Fetterman," Oz added.
On Tuesday, Mayor Kenney clarified his comments from the previous night.
"In a late-night, overwhelming moment of frustration, I said I was looking forward to no longer being mayor," Kenney said. "Let me be clear, I'm incredibly grateful to be mayor of this great city and for the people who elected me to lead."
The two Philadelphia officers who incurred injuries were eventually treated and released from Jefferson University Hospital Tuesday

Good answer, Dr. Oz.
Who is Dr. Oz and why would the Mayer of Philly G.A.S. what he/she says?
Talking the Walk so far.
He’s a guy who’s going to get crushed this fall in spite of a red wave at his back…
Is that some sort of a rhetorical question that I’m not getting?
It sounds like the mayor was simply being honest and blunt about how he feels given the conditions. It would have been better had he been more diplomatic, or even had he said nothing like this at all, but he’s human.
Politicians such as Mayor Lightfoot of Chicago, says inappropriate things several times a month, but she doesn’t want to quit, she just has a big mouth and no empathy for others.
I fear you could be correct - though I’m hoping you are as correct as you were about Darth Vader on that other thread...we need to hold that seat - can’t afford to have any losses with a map that isn’t favorable to Republicans we want Schumer out of there.
Is is a joke. Completely off brand for PA…. Even if he should win Pa and America lose. Just another bought and sold Uniparty hack
Even though Oz might have a point, he isn’t a good replacement.
Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
Talking the walk is easy. Walking the walk is difficult and the only thing that matters.
Oz sounds like Mitt Romney already.
Well, he’s running against a guy who doesn’t make good health decisions and could drop dead at any point. Oz has Fetterman beat on just being able to function on a very basic level to keep living and breathing.
Fetterman spent his time as lieutenant governor with precious little to show besides a series of media stories about hanging lgbt and marijuana flags from the balcony of his office while having a mini-war with the legislature over the placement and sizes of the flags. Thats all you saw of him if you were paying attention, really, thats it! Then there is the town he was mayor of, which really is a tiny little place with a couple thousand folks. Was he mayor of Philly? Harrisburg? Pittsburgh? Heck, even Lancaster?? No, he was mayor of a place the size of one of those little bedroom communities.
Dr. Oz is a very successful man on the national level and a household name. I’m glad that he’s finally showing some sign of starting to get his sea-legs, because I think he could really do this, and be a Senator. Fetterman has a ton of money because the proggies REALLY want to stick us with this guy, but I question what he brings to the table, really. He has better than even odds of winning, and November is just a couple of months away, but he basically strikes me as the newest Squad member masquerading as another Donald Trump, and that just isn’t going to wear well after a while.
Couldn’t wait? Then don’t wait.
I sort of like his answer, but OTOH the greatest leaders have indicated they have little stomach to be in office.
None greater than George Washington did not wish to be in office, and that led to his leaving the presidency after 2 terms which set the standard.
Washington didn’t say, “gee this is no fun, I’d like to bail!” in yhe middle of a crisis. Oz called it right
I agree, it was a good answer. Too bad we have so many fans of the proggy Philly mayor and flag-obsessed lieutenant governor here!
#7
Washington would never abandon his duty, but he did not like even simply being called up for office.
That’s possibly worse than saying you’ll leave because of major trials!
