Philly's Dem Mayor Wants Out After Overseeing Record-Setting Crime Surge
Townhall.com ^ | 5 July A.D. 2022 | Spencer Brown

Amid the nationwide crime crisis that has arisen out of woke Democrat policies and the so-called "progressive prosecutor" movement, Philadelphia has been especially hard-hit — and its mayor is apparently tired of leading and looking forward to being out of office after overseeing the city's record-setting crime spike.

On Independence Day, two law enforcement officers were hit with gunfire at Philly's July Fourth festivities from an unknown suspect or suspects — authorities are still trying to identify those responsible and determine their motive. Thankfully, both officers were discharged after being treated for their wounds.

Video of the chaos that followed shows that happens in big cities where there's little if any penalty for breaching laws:

In a press conference following the incident, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney went on the same rant that all big-city Democrats do when the lawlessness their policies cause takes hold: attack America's Second Amendment freedom and the country's law-abiding gun owners.

America is "a gun country — it's crazy," Mayor Kenney said. "We're the most-armed country in world history and we're one of the least-safest," he claimed before saying that until those pesky Americans who believe in the constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms lay down their legally-owned firearms "we're going to have this problem."

A tad ironic that, on Independence Day in Philadelphia, the city government was calling for Americans to lay down their arms in fealty to Democrats' dictatorial rule. But, the mayor doesn't even enjoy Independence Day, so little surprise there.

Mayor Kenney followed up his anti-Second Amendment screed by expressing his apparent desire to no longer be responsible for what happens in Philadelphia. "I don't enjoy Fourth of July, I don't enjoy the Democratic National Convention, I didn't enjoy the NFL Draft," he explained. "I'll be happy when I'm not here, when I'm not mayor," Kenney said.

A reporter, apparently surprised by the mayor's answer, asked "You’re looking forward to not being mayor?" as a followup. "Yeah," was Kenney's quick reply, followed by a bizarre chuckle:

So, Kenney, after being elected in 2015, has overseen Philadelphia's crime surge that he now says makes him unable to enjoy Independence Day, the DNC, or NFL Draft — a reality for which he has himself to blame — and now that he's plunged Philly into chaos, he whines about the danger on his city's streets and says he wants out.

It's hard to blame Kenney for not wanting to lead a city where Democrat policies — that is, his own — have made the streets exceedingly dangerous — but then it's on Kenney to make the changes necessary to uphold the rule of law, which he and his fellow Dem leaders refuse to do. In addition to Mayor Kenney, embattled District Attorney Larry Krasner has defied calls for law and order to be restored while the City of Brotherly Love smashes all-time homicide records — 562 slayings in 2021 and 267 killed so far in 2022 — but D.A. Krasner denies the city has a violence or crime problem.

Being a Democrat means that nothing is ever your fault.

Typical Democrat. Screws things up and then whines about it.

Philly needs another Frank Rizzo.

Philly's Dem Mayor Wants Out After Overseeing Record-Setting Crime Surge

ROFLMAO! Actually, I shouldn't laugh because it's a very pathetic, disastrous situation throughout the nation in all major cities (even in smaller cities and towns). It continues to destroy the nation from within, yet the totally insane, far-left Democrats desperately want that nationwide extreme violent crime to continue ... to maintain their tight grasp on political power with their brilliant argument: "Nothing to see here - and, by the way, it's all whitey's fault."

For the umpteenth time, idiot far-left liberals, the inner-city crime problem is very simple to solve (but all Democrats cluelessly and arrogantly refuse to even discuss the topic): Breakdown of black family structure. No father, just the mother, with kids. Mostly the young sons, with zero guidance, helplessly look up to the local drug dealers, gang members, and other criminals as father figures. No surprise they're living the gang-banging lifestyle as early as 10 years old (or sometimes, even earlier!). Also, total lack of respect for schools, teachers, and academics in general. Teachers are having a good day if they don't get cursed out or beat up by some violent students. And even less respect for God, religion, churches, priests and nuns, other people, and even themselves. It's an endless, repetitive, catastrophic cycle. (But the far-left liberals - and RINOs - go insane if you even bring up the topic for discussion.)

The nation's cities will never, ever "solve" the disastrously growing, horrific inner-city crime problem ... as long as the vast majority of black Americans continue mindlessly voting the far-left Democrat ticket. (Moronic Democrats, put that statement in your folder labeled, "Duh.") And those same black registered Democrat voters have literally no clue about the history of the Democrat Party. Sad.

And here's another message for the goofy Democrats who've been relentlessly bashing Republicans, conservatives, the popular and successful President Trump, and all Trump supporters for being "treasonous traitors" to America: The folks who stormed the Capitol and President Trump who seemed to some to egg on those folks to do something, in front of the Capitol, were directly reacting to the 2020 stolen election perpetrated by Democrats/RINOs. Both President Trump and his supporters in front of the Capitol were literally stunned by what had just happened only two months earlier. How the heck did the Democrats/RINOs steal that election? And what should President Trump and his supporters at the Capitol Building do about the Democrat/RINO election steal? The stunned Trump and his equally stunned supporters had literally no clue how to react or what to do about it. So that's all they could come up with. Storming the Capitol ... which of course was stupid. As expected, it accomplished nothing, other than handing the con-artist Democrats/RINOs political material to use in the 2022 and 2024 elections.

End of soapbox rant ...... sorry if you read through all of it. My apologies.

It’s not Kenny’s fault. Gov Newsom says it is a red state problem. Given PA’s Republican legislature, PA is a red state. We can’t blame anything going wrong in Philadelphia on the people in Philadelphia because the people in rest of the mostly peaceful Commonwealth are the real cause of the problems. Just look at the way the people in the T live. All their guns are the problem.

I can dig it, and he is one old White guy that’s for sure. But if that is sincerely how he feels, he has an obligation to resign. Don’t know what all that would entail, but if he’s not up to the job, or just doesn’t want to do it anymore, GET OUT. Philly will find another person. They only need one.

We don’t go near Philadelphia, even though we only live 60 miles away.
